If you live or work in a building with a fire alarm system and see something like this, please inform your fire department. This is putting your life in danger.

If you have a small grease fire in a pot or pan put a lid on it, never throw water to try and put it out. If the flames are too big to safely put a lid on, get out and call 911.

When drawing up a home fire escape plan for your family, ensure your pets are included. If you can't escape safely with them, never go back in to try and get them, tell firefighters they are still inside.

Always hire a professional to do any electrical work in your home. What we see here is the aftermath of someone trying to DIY it.

If the areas leading to an exit door in your house look like this, please ensure you tidy up to create a clear egress path so you and or your family can easily escape if there is a fire.

If you smoke, never do it inside your house, this significantly increases the risk of fire in your home. If you smoke outside, please make sure you put your butts into a non-combustible can, never plastic or flower pots.

We would like to remind everyone to never leave cooking unattended or try to cook when you become intoxicated.

If you are eager to BBQ with the warmer weather, please ensure it is placed at least 3 metres from anything that can burn...Or melt.

We would like to remind everyone to keep anything that can burn or melt a safe distance away from your stove top. Luckily in this case it just melted the container.

What we see here is lint that was built up in the exhaust piping of a residential dryer and caught fire. Take the time to not only clean lint from inside your dryer, but also within the exhaust piping where it exits your home.

We would like to remind everyone, that if you see or smell smoke in your home, get out, call 911, and never go back in.

Can you honestly say you have cleaned out the lint from the vent behind your dryer? You may be surprised how much is in it. A build up of lint inside and outside of your dryer is a severe fire hazard.

It's that time! If your smoke and CO alarms have batteries, it is time to change them. If it's a 10 year battery, take the time to test them.

As a building owner you are responsible for ensuring closures in fire separations are maintained so they close and latch flush with the frame. If it does not, you are required to have it repaired or replaced.
