1/5 If you think Tommy Gonzalez has Midland's city council working for HIM instead of the other way around, you may be on to something. We've gotten our hands on the resumé that he submitted to the City of Pecos, which shows that he is VERY experienced in psy ops. 🧵👇

2/2 Also, why were they communicating using the employee’s Gmail account instead of her El Paso account? She is still a City of El Paso employee. Were they trying to prevent Gonzalez’s request from being known to others within the City of El Paso organization?

1/2 In furtherance of his consulting for the City of Pecos, Tommy Gonzalez had his former City of El Paso employee search for a presentation that was made during his time as El Paso’s city manager. Does Gonzalez have City of Midland staff help him with his consulting too?

Former council man calls for VIOLENCE against citizens who question the city Read that again. A grown man… a former councilman… someone who held power in this city for over 20 years… is publicly talking about someone getting physically attacked at a council meeting and offering to pay for it. Let that sink in. This isn’t some random troll with no background. This is someone who USED to sit in those seats making decisions for Midland. And that’s the mindset? We’re sitting here in a time where security is already tight, tensions are high, and people are showing up to speak as citizens… and you’ve got former leadership talking like this? That’s dangerous. Not “offensive.” Not “mean.” Dangerous. Where is the response? Where is the mayor? Where are the current council members? Because if this kind of talk gets ignored, you’re sending a message real quick: That it’s okay to threaten, intimidate, and escalate things against citizens who speak up. You don’t have to agree with somebody. You don’t have to like what they say. But the second we start acting like violence is acceptable at a PUBLIC meeting… we’ve already lost the plot. Midland better decide what kind of city it wants to be. Because this right here? This ain’t leadership. This is exactly the kind of behavior that destroys trust in the people running things.

@Nino_Merica Speaking of First Amendment violations, it's not unreasonable to ask whether his comment reflects how Midland's city government views freedom of expression in general. Is this culture what led to the anti-bond campaign signs being taken from peoples' yards last year?

@Nino_Merica Is he also willing to pay the huge judgment that the city would be ordered to pay for the civil rights violation? It's extremely concerning that a former city council member supports using violence to violate the First Amendment. Do other council members agree with him?

2/2 Polly Walker works for the City of Henderson, Nevada. So how many cities has Gonzalez been working with? The deeper we dig, the longer the list becomes. But of course, Midland's city council is of the opinion that it NEVER interferes with his duties as city manager.

1/2 According to an email sent by Midland City Manager Tommy Gonzalez to the City of Pecos in which he shared a screenshot of an exchange with a woman named Polly Walker, Gonzalez claimed to have "helped another city win the Baldrige award."

An earlier post, which we deleted, incorrectly stated that the internship was created at the request of Pecos City Manager Charles Lino.

Tommy Gonzalez created the City of Midland's "Urban Planning internship" for a Pecos employee at the request of Griffin Moreland, Pecos' Assistant to the City Manager. Was this a PAID internship? Did Midland's taxpayers have to pay for this favor to the City of Pecos?

Interesting. Tommy Gonzalez used the City of Midland as a training ground for at least one Pecos employee. "Jose knows the goal is to expose her to more planning items, so it helps her as the planner in Pecos!" How many other Pecos employees have been doing "internships"?

How much time was Tommy Gonzalez spending on Pecos' business instead of Midland's? Oh wait—we were reliably informed that Gonzalez's outside consulting never, EVER interferes with his duties as Midland's city manager. 🙄

@MidlandsDirt He is a master manipulator. I’d read an article where some of the council members said they’d been brainwashed by Tommy and didn’t realize how bad things had become and that they would have fired him sooner if they were seeing clearly.

“I believe we’ve all brainwashed ourselves….” - Irving Councilman Gerald Farris in 2013 Did Irving’s city council members brainwash themselves, or were they brainwashed by Tommy Gonzalez who wanted to see Irving’s entertainment center plan come to fruition?

5/5 The more contact he has with the council, the more he is able to move them in the direction he wants them to move. This may explain why the mayor and council can't or won't see what the public sees: that Gonzalez is a con man who tries to pull the wool over people's eyes.

4/5 It is clear that the mayor and council members have fallen under Gonzalez's influence, and they likely have no idea that it happened. This makes perfect sense. A psy op can't work when the subjects KNOW that they are being influenced.

Highlighting the working man. Today riding around Midland, we stopped near Lowe’s and talked to a city worker out there doing a job most of us never think about until something quits working. He’s a traffic signal technician, and after talking to him, I’ll tell you straight, a lot of us need to appreciate these workers more. This man told us their crew helps keep up the daily operation of around 130 traffic signals, about 380 light poles, around 110 school flashers, and 8 rapid flashing beacons. And there are only about 4 guys in the field most days, with 2 more in the office who can come out too. Think about that. A small crew is helping keep this whole city moving and a whole lot of our kids safer around school zones. He also said the roughest part of the job is traffic itself, just trying to stay safe while doing the work. That makes sense. Most people fly right past these men and never think twice about what could happen if somebody isn’t paying attention. And the craziest part is, most of us don’t even notice what they do when everything is working. But we sure notice when it fails. You notice when an intersection goes dark. You notice when a school flasher doesn’t work. You notice when something breaks and traffic starts backing up. That’s the kind of job where people mostly only see you when something goes wrong. So I want to give this man some credit. He was professional, respectful, and took the time to explain his work to us. Good dude. Knew his stuff. Took pride in what he does. 20 years working for the city. We spend a lot of time calling out what’s broken in this city, and we’re going to keep doing that. But we also need to give credit where it’s due. There are city workers out here doing real work every day, and Midland ought to appreciate them more. If you see these guys out working traffic signals, slow down and give them room. They’re helping keep the city moving whether most people realize it or not.
