@dst6n01 Having extensive plans for co-planning makes sense. There are some districts that require extensive planning like this for daily lesson planning, though, and I maintain that that demonstrates a lack of confidence in a teacher’s professional judgment and capabilities.

@MidloFischBowl As a teacher I was required to write lesson plans. All we’re not this exhaustive; this was for a new text. I often co planned with my team.
I was not insulted.

@susangbarber My colleague and I also use a blended approach. I think it works particularly well because the whole class novels give us the opportunity to model the thinking, vocabulary, and writing skills that help them to do the intellectual legwork for their choice reads.

“What a blessing it is to read a poem to kids: our classroom quiet, even though the world—and their own smaller worlds—are not…What a balm to slow down their days just enough to linger over beautifully written words.”

TW: All of them.
If you are able to withstand the constant onslaught of inhumanity and unspeakable abominations present in Tender is the Flesh, there exists within the text complex depictions of the boundlessness of human selfishness, foolishness, and hypocrisy. #FischerReads

The Shadow in the Glass is a Faustian reimagining of the Cinderella story. As you can imagine, it contains its fair share of tropes and bromides, but it still produces the same pleasure as a kitschy penny-dreadful. #FischerReads

In Circe, Madeline Miller balances character and plot development to create a rich and intricately woven story of the mythical witch of Aeaea. This was not on my TBR list until one of my wonderful students gifted it to me, and I am SO grateful she did! #FischerReads

@gmdelaporte Did she love it? It seems like one she’d really enjoy!

In Vox, Christina Dalcher brings to life plausible, relatable characters faced with impossible situations in a world where women have been silenced. While perhaps not particularly sophisticated, it is a true page-turner that begs the question, “What would I do?” #FischerReads

Yes! Way to go AP Lit instructors and students!

A truly inspiring increase in AP English Literature scores this year, the result of years of effort from AP teachers and an accumulation of powerful data from colleges on how well AP students are performing in further college English courses after placing out of the intro course:

@what_now2021 @Leah_M_Howie It’s important to remember that educational funding is not a reward, it’s a support. Struggling schools need that support far more than thriving schools. Do you a professional educational background in either public or private settings?
English

@Leah_M_Howie What if the private schools provide a superior learning environment and education? Why should they not receive public funds? 🤔

This collection of poetry and short prose is powerful and has an emotional depth that made it difficult to put down. It really lays bare the patriarchy’s tendency to chip away at the goodness in the world. More importantly it explores the ways to rise above it. #FischerReads

Zone One has the prose of The Things They Carried, and the narrator is much like Neville from I Am Legend, which are two of my staple books. While those would be A-list recommendations for someone seeking survivalist lit, Zone One would head up my B-list. #FischerReads
