Actually, even though this EPA graph uses a cow for agriculture, it really is the 9% number summing up ALL of agriculture (crops & animals). According to the same inventory, all of livestock emits 3.9% of all US GHG. Sorry for being a stickler but numbers matter in this context.

Beef cattle do require more feed per lb. of body weight gain than pigs and chickens; however, most of that feed is not in competition with human food (we can't eat it, can't grow crops on the land). Taking that into account, differences in feed conversion largely go away
