@formerlyaangozz Both MLB’s regular season and the WBC take twice as long as the NHL season and Four Nations do.
It’s also a lot to ask non-participating players to sit idle for that long.

@Miggysbat NHL owners agreed to it. Didn't lose any regular season games either. Don't see why this is different. It's a much less injury risky sport too.

You think player participation is compromised now? There is NO way any team in postseason contention allows their players to join this tournament if it happens during the All-Star Break.

And it’s not MLB’s tournament solely, they would need coordination from other professional baseball league to create the same break in their schedule (KBO, NPB, etc).

Four Nations only takes 8 days, the WBC is almost two weeks. Aside from contending teams being hesitant to let their stars play, asking non-participating players to sit idle that long would be tough.
MLB would also need coordination from every other professional league (KBO, NPB, etc.) to have/create a two week break in their schedule.
It’s all possible, I just don’t see the benefit.

@Miggysbat @MooneyOwnsYou That depends on how much revenue a mid-season WBC gives them. They own the tournament, they would never allow a mid-season tournament outside of their own stadiums. It's not crazy to think it makes more money than the lost regular season games

Mid season is the heat of the pennant race. How would this work schedule wise? Would players leave their teams for a period of time? Would MLB games keep going? Would MLB games just pause until WBC games are done? How does this make sense?

The tournament isn’t pointless, but that will partially be the line of thinking for when contending teams don’t let their pitchers play in a summer WBC.
Also, someone else pointed out below my original tweet, MLB doesn’t control the WBC unilaterally, so they can’t change the date without approval from the WBSC, KBO and other league/sanctioning bodies.

@Miggysbat You’re not thinking like an owner. If they believe this long-term strategy grows the sport and thereby grows the revenue, they will do it. If you think their objective of owning a baseball team was to win the World Series, you would be mistaken
