Wigan Warriors is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player and Club scout John “Johnny” Jackson.
Making his first-team debut for Wigan in 1964, he earned heritage Number 633 and went on to be a key part of the scouting team at Wigan.

We are deeply saddened to share the recent passing of two former Roughyeds who each hold an important place in the club’s history.
Iconic Oldham full-back and Hall of Fame inductee, Martin Murphy, passed away peacefully yesterday, aged 77. Martin was a hugely respected figure and a former captain of the club, who also represented Lancashire and England.
He is remembered not only for his achievements on the field, but for the lasting personal impact he had on teammates, supporters, and all who knew him.
We have also learned of the death of former Roughyed Fred Hall. A local lad, Fred signed for Oldham from Blackpool Borough, making his debut on 14 January 1973 in a 16–10 victory over York at Watersheddings.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and loved ones of Martin and Fred at this difficult time. Both men will be fondly remembered and will always be part of Oldham’s proud rugby league heritage.

The men’s team might not return for pre season training until next week, but our women’s team are still putting in the hard work as they prepare for their first competitive season — with an impressive 34 players now registered!
They even brought some fun to training tonight with a bit of fancy dress! 🎃💀🧛♀️👏
If you’d like to get involved, please contact Team Manager Natalie Howarth at natalie.howarth@roughyeds.co.uk.
A huge shoutout to Darcey and Rhys, who have also recently represented Jamaica — an incredible achievement! Congratulations from everyone at Oldham. 🇯🇲💪

A Brilliant First Week of Summer Camps!
We’ve had an incredible first week at our Summer Camps, packed with fun, learning, and unforgettable experiences!
The children had a fantastic time developing their rugby skills, with focused sessions on passing, kicking, and game awareness. But it wasn’t just about what happened on the pitch…
Head Coach Sean Long dropped by to chat with the kids, answer their questions, and offer insight into what it takes to succeed in rugby league. We also welcomed two of our French first-team stars, Eloi Pelissier and Mathieu Pons, who shared their experiences and passed on some top tips.
Off the field, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service paid us a special visit. The children got hands-on experience with the hose, explored the fire engine, and even tried out some of the essential rescue tools.
It’s been a week to remember and we’ve still got three more to go!
If your child or any children you know would be interested in joining the fun, you can book here: roughyeds.co.uk/news/summer-ca…

The Roughyeds have a new man in charge of its youth development programme, with Callum Irving joining the club as Pathways Technical Advisor.
Irving will oversee the development and implementation of a new pathways structure at Oldham RLFC, to bring through the stars of the future at the Netpar Training Centre.
And joining George and Mike Ford on a brand new episode of The Boundary Line, Irving detailed his own background and the scale of the job ahead.
