An ice jam on the Athabasca River north of Fort McMurray is causing water levels to rise. The water is currently high on the Athabasca underneath the bridge, however these levels are being monitored closely. At this time, there are no evacuation alerts or orders in place. Low-lying areas in the community of Draper could experience overland flooding, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions. There are no impacts to egress on the road at this time. Important Safety reminders: 🚫Stay away from riverbanks and flowing water. 🚫Do not attempt to access closed areas. 🚫Do not fly drones near the river. Unsafe activity was observed throughout the night on social media. 🚫Keep children and pets away from affected areas. The ice is breaking on the Athabasca River. River breakup is occurring in Fort McMurray. This is normal, expected and planned for. Municipal teams will monitor the ice movement overnight. In 1969, he passed away from a land mine while on active duty. Fort Chipewyan Water Treatment Plant Update – Nov. 1, 2025 - 11:45 a.m. At this time, we estimate the Boil Water Advisory and Water Conservation Advisory will remain in place for the next 10-14 days. This timeline can change based on what operators are seeing at the plant. Restoring normal water service requires reservoir levels to be rebuilt, the water system flushed and lots of testing. Starting on Sunday (Nov. 2), bottled water pick-up hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mamawi Hall moving forward. The next update will be available around noon, on November 2. Fort Chipewyan Water Treatment Plant Update – Nov. 2 - 11:30 a.m. Progress is being made on getting the plant to produce potable water, but there is still lots of work to do. Additional technical experts are being brought into the community to help. A very large shipment of bottled water arrived in the community yesterday and more is on the way. Bottled water will continue to be available for pick-up at Mamawi Hall daily from 10 am - 6 pm until the advisories are lifted. Athabasca Delta Community School (ADCS) and the Fort Chipewyan Community Daycare will be open on Monday, Nov. 3. The municipality is in regular communication with the school, daycare and community organizations. Do not drink from water fountains until the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted. Drinking fountains should be put out of order if the water is being provided from the municipal water treatment plant. The newly elected Council met at Jubilee Centre today for the first of several onboarding and orientation sessions. Members spent the day connecting with ICAO Jody Butz and other members of Administration as they begin learning about municipal operations, priorities, and governance. Training and orientation will continue in the days ahead as the new Council prepares to begin its term. Councillor Wigle also took part in today’s sessions but wasn’t able to join for this photo. The Swearing-in Ceremony takes place Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the SMS Equipment Place Grand Ballroom, MacDonald Island Park — all are welcome to attend in person or watch the livestream on the RMWB YouTube Channel. 🎥
