Scientists from our Department 'Living Matter Physics' developed a new model on organization of matter: non-reciprocal interactions play an important role in creating structures on a higher level - and eventually in the formation of life. @LivMatPhys ds.mpg.de/4075605/241212…

Emergent Dynamics in Living Systems
Hot off the press: In a collaboration between Stefan Karpitschka's group and several people from @LivMatPhys, we show how filament motility, reversals at illumination boundaries and filament interactions work together to create emergent structures. @Lei_La_ @RGolestanian @mpids

New paper w/ @MikeChatzittofi @RGolestanian! When the precision of a molecular machine is too good to be true, it could be that there is not a single machine but a whole team behind it. Stochastic thermodynamics helps us infer how big the team is, and how strongly it cooperates.

A thermodynamically consistent description for stochastic swimmers far from equilibrium. Through an exact model, it is shown that external forces affect the motion not only by passive dragging but also by influencing the active swimming via the mechanochemical coupling.
