Been a while since I was up in London. This was a great event - @TheFCA #ConsumerDuty 3 months in - and the consensus among the panel was that there is a long way to go - but now all heading in the right direction so that's a good thing!

@dmthomas90 @andyratcliffe9 @jonathansimons It all depends what we want to achieve. If we want people to be able to use numbers and data to make good decisions in their daily lives, this rarely involves much of what is traditionally taught in maths. The phrase is too simplistic @conradwolfram's The Math(s) Fix is better!

@andyratcliffe9 @jonathansimons @MikeEllicock I haven’t heard that phrase before and so I may just be misinterpreting it, but I’ve been thinking about it since you posted your tweet and the more I think the less convinced I am that simple maths in complex situations is the thing we should be prioritising

@jonathansimons @dmthomas90 Agree on the risk. But I think they're onto something here. @MikeEllicock has argued for ages that numeracy is 'simple maths in complex situations'. So it's more than using practical examples to learn maths concepts. (I'm definitely seeing what I want to see in the announcement)
