In case you missed it, here is my piece from over the weekend on some of the key reasons for the implosion of Vinay Prasad at the FDA. I appreciate all the feedback and comments I've gotten on this one. One thing I want to be clear about: the FDA had become too permissive on rare disease. That doesn't make Prasad's decisions in that area correct, and every single one would have gone better had he simply thought things through. My takeaways: (1) Conduct matters. (2) So do rules and norms. (3) The vaccine thing. (4) Mixed messages can (and did) backfire. (5) A good message doesn't justify further disrupting a system in which civil servants, not politicians, are trusted to make regulatory decisions. statnews.com/2026/03/08/vin…

Gee, who could this "senior FDA official" be? It's a head scratcher. But he might tell Vinay Prasad that thinly veiled attacks against, oh, UniQure, and going off on advisory councils is a great way of keeping the political pot boiling at the FDA.
