@stats_feed Loyalty to companies doesn't matter - no matter how good one may be, just doesn't matter as the company owners just look out for themselves. Real, lasting, genuine friendship and an awareness to stop pleasing others with different values and ticking their boxes matters most.

@BenjiNaesen @Roadman_Podcast The issue in Ireland is kind of an urban versus rural matter. Cycle lanes are being rolled out in towns and cities. In the West of Ireland cycling on roads is quite dangerous due to the volume of traffic.

@BenjiNaesen @Roadman_Podcast When I first started cycling in 2001 I used to love the mountain stage look as per gelled hair exposed or a cool looking cotton cap. Well the hair is long gone as per a mix of too much product back in the day and genetics. Now am older I'd be very nervous without a helmet.

The Irish government is looking at the idea of bringing in a law that would make wearing a helmet compulsory for anyone cycling on the road.
Right now, there’s still no legal requirement to wear one, even though most clubs already insist on helmets for group spins and events.
This is all part of a broader chat around road safety and how to treat people on bikes, e-bikes and scooters in the same way as other road users when it comes to protection and responsibility.
They’re basically exploring whether a legal helmet rule would reduce injuries, but there’s already plenty of debate about whether that actually improves safety or just puts people off cycling.
Nothing has been signed off yet, but if this goes ahead, riding without a helmet could move from being a personal choice to something that’s actually an offence.
That would be a big shift in how cycling is treated in Ireland and is likely to spark a lot of noise from both cyclists and non-cyclists once the details land.
What’s your thoughts ?

@BenjiNaesen You're probably right in fairness. They're both at it. Cycling in principle is about conserving energy - my mind is absolutely messed that these guys can race like this in the 1st week and keep doing so forward to Paris with 8 No. Per team.
English

@MikeNeylon1 Thing is, Pogačar has simply improved so much since 2023 that I just don't see the weakness in hard-racing the whole race anymore.
Visma-LAB & Vingegaard are also going all-in this first week so I think the energy expenditure between the 2 teams is quite similar.
English

Everyone knows that I think Pogačar wins this Tour de France, and I love the daily mind-games because I'm a drama-frog but... Pogačar's last 2 interviews made absolutely no sense.
In today's interview, Pogačar pretends the rest of the peloton is getting annoyed at Visma-LAB for trying to join the breakaway, as it leads to the breakaway not winning.
He says this after UAE controlled a breakaway with 0 Visma-LAB riders in it. Don't get me wrong, it's 100% UAE's right to control this breakaway, and it's the right thing to do, but pretending other riders think Visma-LAB is the reason breakaways don't win, is just a bullshit take. 😅 #TDF2025

Pogacar: "Visma didn’t annoy me yesterday, they annoyed other riders more, the ones who wanted to get in the break. If Visma tries, there’s little chance it goes all the way. They just made the start of the stage harder for everyone. For us, it didn’t bother us." #TDF2025

@BenjiNaesen Echoes of 2022? As per too much, too soon in terms of the intensity of racing by UAE? High mountains shall ultimately decide as they always do. Just think that UAE are bossing the race way too early.
English

Reality is, UAE is the team that is making the breakaway formation phase of the race longer. Yesterday is the perfect example.
A breakaway of 5 riders up the road, 7 non-dangerous riders with 0 Visma-LAB riders try to bridge to the front, Marc Soler controls them.
Why? Because UAE wants to have a small breakaway, so they can decide after it's formed, whether they want to hunt down the breakaway or not.
In doing so, 4 teams who want to be in the breakaway, miss the breakaway, so they try to jump again, making the breakaway formation phase longer.
That's a perfect strategy by UAE, but then don't whine about Visma-LAB extending the breakaway formation phase when it's clearly UAE doing it through the desire for a small breakaway.
