So much hate and anger out there. But...There are some great corollaries and responses to Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond, my favorite is Why Nations Fail. It neuters many things Diamond says but does not invalidate them. Diamond opened the discussion on these problems.

Jared Diamond’s “Guns, Germs, and Steel” was one of those works that helped ‘break the spell’, for me - helped me realize just how partisan, dishonest, and manipulative modern academia had become.. and how important it was to start taking in such things with a grain of salt. (1)

@Nomanslandia Jared Diamond makes some great points, but Acemoglu & Robinson 2012 - Why Nations Fail add in lots of missing pieces. Institutions matter, a lot. This explains North and South Korea - where the balmier South is more prosperous, and other places as well.
