@WarsawRising44 They will be missed. My grandfather died in the uprising. I’m going to attend the ceremonies next year and visit the museum. Can you help with tickets?

In Memoriam
There were many #WarsawRising1944 veterans who passed away this year. May they rest in peace 🙏
Their powerful voices will be heard forever and we will preserve their legacy 🇵🇱💗
(video transcript below):
"We were all together in it. We cared for each other. We shared bread with one another. These are my best memories of the Warsaw Rising… I can’t forget about it all. It’s still deep in my mind… I am simply proud of myself that I was a part of ‘It’… I would go and fight, even today. Even at my age, and I’m 80 now!... Though I suffered so much, I was convinced it was worthwhile... They would say: - ‘Oh, you’ve chosen easy part! - And tell us, who will help your old parents to rebuild it all and bring it back to life? … The Rising will stay in the human memory. And that’s what matters. This feeling that we belong to a nation that cannot be subjugated. And this is of utmost importance."

✈️On 1 August 2024 🇵🇱 pilots will pay tribute to the #WarsawRising1944 participants in a very special way.
C-130 Hercules and four F-16s will fly over the City Centre of WARSAW (from S to N: over Zbawiciela Sq, Marszałkowska Street, Krasiński Sq) at 5 pm.
The #WarsawAirbridge also known as the #WarsawAirlift was one of the most daring air operations in #WW2. We cannot forget dramatic losses in crews and aircrafts, hundreds of the allied airmen killed in action at the time of the #WarsawRising1944.
Dedicated airmen took off from Brindisi (Southern Italy). These dangerous flights over German-occupied territory would take 12 hours.
The Polish airmen were the ones who flew the most and they paid the highest price. There were 14 Polish crews that were killed in action in the Warsaw Airbridge . Only two made it through.
Bitterness and a feeling of loss ruled in the hearts of those who survived. Though the supplies they dropped were limited, the aimen knew they took part in a mission that would be remembered forever.
Anythime the people of Warsaw saw a bird of steel in the night skies, they knew they were not alone. They knew that someone tried to do their best to bring aid.
We bow our heads in memory of the brave crews of the 🇵🇱Polish Air Force (1585 Special Duties Flights), 🇬🇧Royal Air Force (148 Sq and 178 Sq RAF), 🇿🇦South African Air Force ( 31 Sq and 34 Sq) and 🇺🇸United States Army Air Force (#FranticVII).
