@Mike_Lacey Maybe I’m just being self-centred and naive, but I truly thought this would have been a bigger story, and also easier to point out all that’s wrong with the situation and ‘win’ in the courts. It’s disheartening how little people care.

@hollieprattcamp Also interesting how Metroland is considered separate from Torstar but for the past 6 plus years we were told Metroland doesn’t exist and we were all one big Torstar family.

WEPP has already been denied at least twice by the courts b/c it is there for employees of companies that have gone bankrupt. Metroland is still continuing to operate and pays many large salaries. Those who have been laid off now continue to wait for any kind of payment. (2/2)

Spreading awareness of the appalling treatment I & hundreds of other Metroland employees/former employees are undergoing. The laws of our country are shockingly slanted to benefit the rich and powerful & @TorontoStar owner is taking full advantage of them.

@hollieprattcamp @Jdavis_Halton I appreciate that. I also respected the work you did. So many good people have been let go the last few years. Such a huge loss for communities.

@Mike_Lacey @Jdavis_Halton I’m so sorry, Mike. Even though we never met in person, I always thought so highly of your work as a digital editor and later manager. You had a hugely positive impact both in the communities you served and among your colleagues.

I wish I could say I wish I hadn’t tried so hard, worked so many extra hours, made sure to take all my vacation when I worked for Metroland. But really the only thing I regret was believing there would be any degree of loyalty on their end. I am so proud of the work our teams did

@hollieprattcamp @Jdavis_Halton I was let go Friday on a video call. No severance. 20+ years with Metroland. Still trying to process it all.

@Jdavis_Halton That’s so terrible…I know a number of people in that situation. I took a VDP that was supposed to last until mid-February, then was informed on Friday that it was cancelled immediately. No more payments.
