@Mikearice
34. I have good takes, it's not my fault you don't agree with them. Overflowing with salt.

@DestinyTheGame 6000 bright dust for the 6000 players still on the game

@AdriWindGB Got all the way to Venom after Area 6 on my first full playthrough in decades and proceeded to get completely shitfucked by Wolf and his band of assholes.
Could not do it.
English

to everyone playing Star Fox 64 for the first time don't let me find you playing one route and then leaving it
you better get that good ending

Adri💫@AdriWindGB
There's a decompilation for Star Fox 64 on PC by the way and it's the best version of the game by a trillion miles, you should go get it
English

@Trongel7090 They'll tell you body hair captures and keeps odors.
I'll tell you they're just cowards.
English

@deetvleet @arvalis @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu Back in the day Matt Frank used to get DMCA'd by Toho on the regular for Godzilla fanart on his DeviantArt. Remember him talking about stuff like this on the Twisted Kaiju Theater forums in the 2000s.
English

@Mikearice This is a pro AI position, man. This is the exact position AI companies want the government to take because that gives them free rein over everything and artists lose any right to their work.
English

@arvalis @Neocatboy @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu Not saying you did, but I -am- saying there's nothing wrong with it. It's like arguing that the specific posedall or action figure you reference for a character pose should be credited. The progression of art as culture should fundamentally not be hindered by that. It's all ego.
English

@arvalis @Neocatboy @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu Also, as a paleoartist you should also be very aware of the amount of times a Tyrannosaurus has been drawn in the same pose and stature as that one toy. We know the one.
English

@arvalis @Neocatboy @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu It's the one you're literally endorsing. One of my favorite new fantasy novels has an army of selectively chosen green armored knights that have a chest-sigil and summon green energy swords out of the air. That's just Green Lanterns but in LOTR Elf Land.
Is that bad?
English

@arvalis @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu To reply to this in a different path.
This started because you drew fanart of a thing you didn't make. You copied the Xenomorph design for your own art. You made something derivative, that then informed the creation of the source material.
You copied art from working artists.
English

@Mikearice @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu I do not think working artists should copy work from other working artists. This is the entire foundation of why artists don’t like AI.
English

@arvalis @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu That's where we differ. I don't think this is at all in the realm of kinda shitty. There's a whole TV Tropes page on Ascended Fanon and the way you talk makes it sound like you want every instance properly credited and acknowledged.
English

@Mikearice @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu There is a different between what’s legal and what’s just kinda shitty. I was just expressing disappointment
English

@arvalis @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu I dunno man I think fundamentally if you want it to belong to you, you play by the rules and make stuff you can own or you accept that fanart can never be yours and gets dropped into the communal swimming pool of fandom consumption that can even be swam in by the people making it
English

@Mikearice @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu I don’t want any compensation. It doesnt seem hard to understand that someone might not enjoy seeing an edited version of their work made without acknowledgement.
English

@arvalis @Carzonfye @quirked_up_anzu What about this is 'ripping you off' in the slightest, man? You want compensation for a crunched down jpeg they used in a -storyboard-?
English

@Carzonfye @Mikearice @quirked_up_anzu For some reason think I’m a big fan of copyright? I’m absolutely not and very in favor of drastic copyright reform. No part of this is about copyright, it’s just shitty to be ripped off when I also work on official alien stuff.
English

@arvalis Man, I don't see this as being any remotely different than Bungie being like 'We looked at Terminators and Appleseed for our Destiny Robot People' and publicly showing that off at GDC.

English

@Mikearice I have worked in the industry and I’m telling you this is not common and understood. Using art from living artists in this way is highly frowned upon. Even when it’s done for placeholders, they are not meant to be public
English

@arvalis "Hey, they used my art in the production of a new Alien movie, that's fuckin' sick." is a statement that makes you look less entitled. I'd be stoked if the people making my favorite things even knew I existed at all.
English

@arvalis The marketplace of ideas, man. You put your fanart out there and it in some way influenced the creation of the very thing you made fanart of, and sometimes you don't -need- direct credit except to stoke your ego. You can double up the transparency and compare the image yourself.
