@ChicagoContrar1 If a tower was the piece that was desperately needed, they had already lost the fire building. The only thing a tower is better for than a straight stick is surround and drown.

Here is something with which all Chicago residents should be racked by anxiety. Yesterday, as CFD battled a fire at 74th and Yates in South Shore, the Battalion Chief declared an extra alarm and requested a tower ladder. Woefully, the closest tower ladder available across the entire city was located at Grace and Damen. This ladder traveled 156 blocks — some TWENTY MILES — to respond to the extra alarm. This is an utter outrage. Of the ten tower ladders in Chicago, 5, 10, 16, 24, 39, and 54, all are out of service. At the moment, only four tower ladders are in service, TLs 14, 21, 23, and 63, all of which are stationed on the North and West Sides of the city. This leaves the whole of the South Side of Chicago —which unfortunately experiences a higher number of fires — without sufficient equipment to fight large-scale fires. This shortage of equipment is inexcusable and undeniably imperils residents whose taxes pay for fire protection. This equipment shortage also creates dangerous conditions for CFD called on to fight fires. So, now that you know, @ChicagosMayor, are you going to do something about this?

@WestLoopTom @sullyhome Yes harasses should be in shape. Case by case basis. Like the one I just mentioned. And no it's not cheaper to have some retire and hire new.

@MikeyHamcheck @sullyhome There has to be a better way to keep them in shape and do the job we pay them to do and they agreed to do when they took the job. That’s how it works for the rest of us. Wouldn’t it be better to hire new better performers at lower salaries? Desk duty cops don’t make us safer.

@WestLoopTom @sullyhome Yes some would. Some have legitimate injuries that were either on duty, off duty or from illness. Ie officer had a stroke at 55 and can't really do the job anymore but wants a few years of desk duty to reach his retirement. If you forced him out he would retire and start drawing

@MikeyHamcheck @sullyhome There are many on desk duty and yes they should be on the street. Are you saying they’d fraudulently make up a disability? What should we do with fat 45 year old and under cops you can do their jobs well?

@WestLoopTom @sullyhome Forcing them off the job would be more expensive than just letting the few old timers do desk jobs. You would see many go on some sort of disability. They already have mandatory retirement at 63. Can desk positions be cut and some sent to street yes

@MikeyHamcheck @sullyhome Some. I know lots of people that age who are in great shape and not obese. They could always retire if they can’t do the job we pay them to do.

@HeatherCherone Heather - we are on totally opposite opinions on everything. However I think we can agree that the city paying all these law firms millions needs to be investigated.

Random Friday night drinking makes no sense to me anymore. You feel like shit the next morning, waste $250, eat garbage at 2am, and wake up with nothing to show for it. Alcohol should be reserved for events weddings, birthdays, sports games, dates, etc. Learning how to go out sober and still rizz is a cheat code. Getting drunk just because “it’s Friday” is NPC behavior…
