A letter from the Secretary of Derby Football Club, Will Shaw, to Sam Widdowson (Nottingham Forest I think) seeking a fixture in August 1881 from 36 Loudon Street. Sam has returned the letter and written on it 'I didn't get any letter'. A bit of a curt put-down perhaps...   Derby FC were generally referred to as Derby Town at that time., or 'the Town club'. They became defunct when Derby Midland came on the scene, and before DCFC were formed, but certainly could be considered a sort of forerunner in the timeline to Derby County, with key players and officials becoming involved with DCFC. It is the earliest artefact of Derby football I have come across and you will see it carries a badge of the Buck in the Park. I am not suggesting it would have been on their shirts, but it is interesting in that, at that stage, the 'buck' was certainly more favoured than the 'ram', which came later. Email from the legendary Peter Seddon, the renowned researcher into early football origins and our club, I’ve touched up the badge with the help of ai, one of the earliest known examples of the logo of Derby being used. #dcfcfans @dcfcofficial

Over his career with us he deserves a POTS and time is running out for a Legend to be recognised with this award. Others may catch the eye more but they’ll be a footnote in our history long term. After all. Liam Roberts won it last year so hopefully we can recognise a true worthy winner. #Millwall
