We are excited to once again bring back POKER FOR PONIES for its third year! This event was founded to rally support from the industry towards aftercare and protecting our horses when their racing days are behind them. We appreciated everyone who participated last year and are pleased to share that we raised funds for 50 accredited aftercare organizations, each whom received a minimum donation of $5,000 to put towards the horses in their care. Please, join us once again or for the first time, to continue making an impact where it matters most. Elmhurst King of Hearts ❤️ Who passed away on 4th January, will be remembered with quiet respect and deep affection. Gentle in spirit and strong in presence, he brought grace and warmth to everyone who knew him. @BreedersCup @MimsRetirement @nmrhof @CalumetFarm @EvergreenFarm

The 25-year-old mare produced nine named foals during her breeding career, and was pensioned in 2019 before arriving at Our Mims in 2023: tinyurl.com/4a45h2bf

How's this for a world-class broodmare lineup? 2003 L to R: My Turbulent Miss was dam of Prized. Sugar and Spice, dam of GSW Cinnamon Sugar, won G1 Mother Goose. Taba produced Turkoman. Glowing Tribute 1993 Broodmare of the Year (Sea Hero+). Iza Valentine dam of Fran's Valentine.

Four of these mares - all but Glowing Tribute - lived out their lives at @MimsRetirement . I believe their remains are in the farm cemetery. This interesting photo was shot by the great @lordatwar , who appreciated the importance of broodmares more than anyone else I've known.
