@codetaur That's a really cool visualization - you should try mapping the time helix to astrological data! halfway there anyway, use the solar system's trajectory and earth's rotation about the sun as spatial source :D

do you have an interesting yet simple idea that you can't get claude code / codex to build? if so, I want to hear it or see a sketch, and then try building a decent start for you. I need little distractions when I'm tired of working on my own projects that never end. the end result would be an open source code artifact, and I'll do my best to include prompts/process where possible. video is the quintessential example, time-helix built from a @tr_babb sketch/idea

@SoundSafari_io Cheers, ty! I figure with some VFX in there to muddy the waters it should look pretty slick, one little bug on the attached parts angles at switchover from VAT then I'll be content. I was really unsure if the terrain WPO physics fakeout would work or not, pretty hacked.

@SoundSafari_io Good excuse to test out the ragdoll theory... was a bit unsure if it would work smooth as the terrain is all WPO with no collision, doing fake physics hit responses ^_^ VFX eventually too ofc :P

@ALASKANmagpie Proofing performance :D I'd wanted to be able to do big swarms like Vampire Survivors and learned the hard way that UE's defaults aren't so easy for big numbers, particularly if you want units that can be composed of modular parts... sooo I did quite a bit of optimizing!

not pretty at all yet, but the machine is working! 100v100 test at 100 fps with play-in-editor overhead. 1000v1000 works okay too. #optimization has been a big success! #UE definitely not built for this out of the box :P #mecha #gamedev #indiedev

1000v1000 should be way more than I need, but nice to have things ironed out. ~30fps in-editor isn't great, but also kind of an extreme example. #mecha #gamedev #indiedev #UE

@Supa_Stu907 @1Reixx1 An anime adaptation would have been excellent, and for the costing of a live-action they probably could have made the whole series as anime, adapted mostly verbatim. Completely insane decision making, can't fathom what madness propels these choices, must be the Dark One's touch!

@jay4291 Thank you so much! Slowly piecing together the cogs to make for a speedy and optimized production as I gear up ^_^ set up a nice auto-capture setup that takes this rig and spits out 8-direction animation loops for vertex animation texture :D

Sometimes the most boring things are the big ones! 2000 units between 2 teams, doing all the things units should do, for ~3ms gamethread time via phased Mass processing. This should give me plenty of headroom! #optimization #gamedev #indiedev
