We all experience seasons in the spiritual life, especially when it feels like God is quiet. I know I have.
➡️ We go to Mass.
➡️ We say our prayers.
➡️ We try to stay faithful.
Yet our hearts still feels heavy.
Today’s readings remind us that faith is not built on feelings alone.
St. Paul speaks with honesty about the cost of discipleship.
He knows suffering, sacrifice, and uncertainty and yet he continues to place everything in God's hands.
The Psalm proclaims that the Lord never stops caring for His people.
And in the Gospel, Jesus prays not only for His disciples, but for all who belong to Him.
👉That means you and me.👈
One of the greatest temptations when we are in difficult seasons is convincing ourselves that we are alone.
But the Lord remains near, even when His presence feels hidden.
Mother Teresa knows this all too well.
This is why the sacraments matter so deeply.
In the Eucharist, Christ still feeds and strengthens us even when our hearts feel empty.
In Confession, He offers mercy and renewal when we feel discouraged or burdened.
God’s grace is not dependent on our emotions, He continues to meet us through the life of the Church.
As a Catholic Deacon, I have seen this truth again and again:
God often does His deepest work in ordinary faithfulness.
So if today feels spiritually dry...
👉 Keep walking.
👉 Keep praying.
👉 Keep returning to the sacraments.
👉 Keep trusting.
Grace is still at work, Jesus walks with you, even now. 🕊️
Keep fighting the good fight. 💪

Gospel of the Day (John 17,1-11a)
Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,
just as you gave him authority over all people, so that he may give eternal life to all you gave him.
Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.
Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.
I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.
I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours,
and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them.
And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are."

At a time when our world is afflicted by so many conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, Christians must, more than ever, strive for full unity so that we may bear witness together to the Prince of Peace. In doing so, we can be confident in the powerful intercession and example of the countless martyrs who have suffered for the name of Christ. #ChristianUnity

Get ready for Pentecost with us!
Starting May 15, EWTN will post a daily Holy Spirit Novena video on our Live Mass & Devotions YouTube channel leading up to Pentecost on May 24.
EWTN Chaplain Fr. John Paul Mary, MFVA calls it “the oldest novena in the life of the Church,” going all the way back to the apostles praying with Mary in the Upper Room, waiting for the promised Holy Spirit.
Each day of the novena will include:
- A short meditation on the Holy Spirit
- A consecration prayer
- A prayer for one of the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit and a related fruit of the Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the One who makes Christ alive in us, transforms us, and makes us “other Christs” in the world. Come pray with us and ask for a new outpouring of the Spirit this Pentecost!
Pray along here: @EWTNLiveMass" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">youtube.com/@EWTNLiveMass
