@MisterIneffable @sciencegirl The 737 is "fly by hydraulics", i e the yoke directly controls the position of the rudder surfaces so any spontaneous "flapping" of rudders due to wind and turbulence causes movement of the yoke.
Airbus 320 is fly-by-wire without this direct link.

That's the read from James King, senior fellow at Chatham House, one of the world's top foreign policy think tanks.
Trump is in Beijing meeting Xi, with a 200-plane Boeing deal reportedly on the table.
But the framing matters: China is buying planes because it helps them look like the reasonable party.
The U.S. spent decades negotiating with China from a position of strength. That leverage is gone, according to James.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told Bloomberg the US expects China to commit to "double-digit billion" worth of US agricultural product purchases annually for the next three years. Nothing has been officially signed yet. China reportedly "reupped" the license for over 400 US beef plants whose export permissions had expired. A $30 billion "Board of Trade" covering non-sensitive goods is under discussion. Nvidia H200 chip sales remain a "sovereign decision" for Beijing. Despite Trump greenlighting exports, China has not yet allowed its firms to purchase them. Rare earth exports got a "passing grade" from Greer. While Iran dominated the headlines, the substance the US expects to come out of the summit is farm state midterms, beef licenses, and trade architecture executing Wall Street's playbook.
