A mentat’s (more contentious) musings on #scifi - Dune X Star Wars

i swear #TheMandalorianAndGrogu gets better with every rewatch

A lot of people are coming into mentions trying to throw it down my throat that the budget was NOT $165M Yea, all Studios do this exactly and report the Production Budget when it comes to Box Office vs Budget. I know Salaries and Marketing are Budget costs but also a counter to that is tax write offs and then it comes to merchandise? Do we also include that? Studios aren’t going to fully reveal every cost, just like they don’t reveal every profit outside of Box Office when it comes to these huge films. Merch, Disney world, Disney plus, Box Office and so much more. #TheMandalorianandGrogu

The standard (just shut up about the marketing budget) is to judge a film against its production budget on opening weekend. You can flood the replies with commentary on marketing cost and theater chain take, and that doesn’t change a thing. This film is a box office success.

One thing that annoys me is when a big IP movie makes crazy money in its opening weekend & it’s framed as a disappointment. If a Star Wars spin-off movie makes ONE-HUNDRED & TWO MILLION BUCKS in 4 days, that’s a huge success. Regardless of how it compares. Full stop.

What's crazy is this is actually the highest audience score for a Star Wars movie outside the original trilogy.

Overperformed and made back its production budget on opening weekend = box office success (Add to it that if this would have been a D+ season it would have cost approximately the same and brought in negligible new D+ subscribers which mean a financial loss.)

lol yes this is what I said, this movie is what George would've made if he stayed active

If you only read one “thought piece” about #TheMandalorianandGrogu, let it be this one. This is why Star Wars matters. And why Star Wars MUST remain focused on being a story targeting parents and their kids.

Different shows that exist for different audiences. There are people who loved SW as kids, but as adults were curious about a mature take on the universe. It is, after all, a story about a galactic civil war. (1/4)
