Walking today in Rajouri with Hon’ble Lt. Governor Shri Manoj Sinha ji during the Nasha Mukt march was deeply meaningful for me, all the more because the main event was held in the school where I studied till Class XII. This was not merely a programme or a march but a very strong call from the heart to save our youth. Drugs destroy not only individuals, but families, dignity and the future of society. Rajouri must stand up, speak up and fight this menace with unity and resolve.

Yesterday , I had the opportunity to inaugurate the new eye care facility of Dr Agarwals Eye Clinic at Alamgari Bazar, Srinagar. Improved access to timely eye care is essential for better health outcomes, especially in view of rising concerns relating to vision impairment, diabetes-linked eye conditions, and preventive screening. I appreciate the efforts of Dr Atif Ali Mir, Dr Shazia Shafi, Dr Raheel, Dr Athar Fayaz Shah, Dr Arshi Nazir Shikari, Dr Amjad Sofi and their colleagues in creating this advanced facility for the people of Srinagar. Such initiatives complement public health systems and help strengthen the larger healthcare ecosystem of the city. Wishing the team success in serving the community.

Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get within point blank range & discharge a shot. It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot & ensured that the assassination attempt failed. There are more questions than answers at the moment including but not limited to how someone was able to get this close to a Z+ NSG protected former CM.

This achievement is bigger than a sporting victory, reflecting what sustained dedication, teamwork, and discipline can achieve. From the early generations who played just to prove themselves, to this phenomenal squad that fought every battle with courage and conviction this season, this title belongs to every young athlete of our region who dares to dream. Today I began what I hope will be a meaningful chapter as Commissioner/Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, J&K. My first day began on the snow slopes of Gulmarg, at the inauguration of the 6th Khelo India Winter Games, alongside Hon'ble LG Sh. Manoj Sinha and Hon'ble CM Sh. Omar Abdullah. Over 400 athletes from 25 States raced these slopes today. Six consecutive years, Gulmarg has hosted this national event. It has earned its place as India's winter sports capital. J&K's youth and sporting talent are extraordinary. I am here to serve them — and to learn. This was some first day. #KheloIndia #Gulmarg #JammuAndKashmir

The Jobs our children are studying for may not exist tomorrow Spent this evening with bright young minds at Doon International School Jammu's 10th anniversary celebrations. When I asked the students how many knew what job they would be doing in 2035, most hands went up confidently. Then I shared something that made them pause: research shows that 60% of the careers that will dominate the next decade haven't even been invented yet. The world my generation prepared for and the world these students will enter are completely different. When I was their age, there were no data scientists, no AI specialists, no drone operators, no content creators as full-time professions. Today's students are preparing for examinations while the global workplace is preparing for skills that go far beyond textbooks. I told them what I learned through my own journey from SKUAST to civil services to Oxford and Harvard that future belongs not to those who know the most answers, but to those who can learn the fastest. Critical thinking, adaptability, communication, and creativity will matter more than any degree certificate. Our children in Jammu and Kashmir have a unique advantage that many don't realize. They come from a place of incredible complexity and resilience, which gives them perspective that cannot be taught in any classroom. The question is whether we are encouraging them to just memorize chapters or to ask uncomfortable questions, to not just follow paths but to create new ones. That shift from information to transformation is what these young minds need, and it starts with us believing they can compete with anyone, anywhere in the world. Lastlt, I am deeply impressed by the Doom management for their outstanding efforts to prepare the children for future, in right direction. The Principal DIS and management are doing an amazing job. Outstanding performance by students.

Honored to address environmental scholars and researchers at the National Conference on Environmental Challenges, in Jammu today. Our Himalayas are sending us clear warnings. Kolahoi Glacier has retreated 2.85 km since 1857, and four of the last five winters recorded below-normal snowfall. We lost 120+ hectares of forest in 2025 alone. But we are responding with action. Our draft Solar Policy 2025 , Hydropower Policy 2025 and 600MW rooftop solar program are turning climate challenges into opportunities. Our 600,000 transhumant pastoralists sustain ecosystem services worth several thousand crors annually through traditional practices. Climate action means jobs, energy security, and protecting our mountains for future generations. A fine combination of Science , Society and Policy has the potential to address the emerging challenges posed by Climate Change Grateful to Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Dr Deepika Slathia Dr Neeraj Sharma and the University of Jammu, JKSTIC led by Dr @khabirjk for organizing this important dialogue. It was also a great pleasure to meet my favourite Dr @lotusladakh besides former senior colleagues in the Forests Dr CM Seth , Dr RS Jasrotia and Dr OP Sharma.

It was a privilege to address the Food and Health Conclave at SKIMS, Srinagar, along with the Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Director SKIMS, Director AIIMS Kalyani, senior experts from SKUAST, SKIMS, doctors, food safety professionals and other stakeholders. I spoke on the critical importance of food safety, and the urgent need to safeguard public health against adulteration, substandard additives and misrepresentation. Science, technology and awareness are our strongest tools in ensuring transparency, accountability and quality in what we consume. Strengthening food safety standards is a collective responsibility for the wellbeing of our society. I look forward to contributing towards R&D and Policy support for Food Safety in J&K.

Every Student of Medicine, Veterinary and other Life Sciences must visit and experience this Lab: Immersive Learning comes alive at SKUAST Kashmir Yesterday I had the privilege of inaugurating the Immersive Virtual Reality Lab (IVRL) at SKUAST Kashmir along with the Vice Chancellor. This first-of-its-kind facility brings a new dimension to teaching and diagnostics by blending AR, VR and 3D simulation into anatomy, physiology and biomedical sciences. The lab allows students and professionals to perform virtual dissections, study layered 3D anatomical models of humans and animals, and connect structural detail with functional physiology in real time. Integrated modules for ECG, USG and bio-atlas scans make it possible to move seamlessly from classroom learning to diagnostic interpretation, an advancement that is transforming medical and veterinary training globally. Learning Anatomy, Physiology and Diagnostics has never been this easy, immersive, and innovative For veterinary sciences, the facility provides interactive models of bovine, equine, avian and other species, while medical and life science learners gain tools that enhance spatial understanding, retention and clinical readiness. Importantly, it offers access to high-quality anatomy resources in regions where cadaver availability and advanced labs are limited. With this step, SKUAST Kashmir joins leading global institutions in adopting immersive education technologies. It strengthens our ability to train the next generation of medicos, veterinarians and biologists with cutting-edge tools, while opening opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. Congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmed Ganai and his team for this terrific project.
