Professor Vellas emphasizes community engagement and has authored over 850 peer-reviewed publications, impacting prevention-focused healthy ageing strategies. His initiatives include inclusion strategies for marginalized older populations and the use of digital education tools in over 40 countries, training nearly 17 000 health and care workers. #WHA79

El Embajador Germán Velásquez fue contundente: los insumos biológicos críticos para la humanidad no deben ser tratados como mercancía exclusiva. La prevención de futuras pandemias depende de escuchar a la ciencia, cooperar para el acceso y garantizar beneficios equitativos.

En este punto, lideramos la inclusión de materiales biológicos derivados de patógenos de manera amplia. La exclusión de algunos de estos dejaría al sistema con un vacío ante futuras pandemias, llevando a que insumos clave para nuevos tratamientos acaben bajo patentes privadas. 🧬

En el Palais des Nations se celebró el Día del Idioma Español en la ONU, un encuentro coorganizado por México y Colombia, con la participación de Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, España , Guatemala, México, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, en homenaje a la riqueza y diversidad cultural del español. A través de lecturas de autores como Gabriela Mistral, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Cervantes, Rubén Darío, José Martí, Cristina Peri Rossi y Simón Bolívar, entre otros, se reflexionó sobre temas universales como la libertad, la identidad, el exilio y la justicia social.
