@WilliamWood10 @HannahWardEdu @SuGreer I may not like this new series (I don't even have Netflix) but I love the chance to talk about LIW and LHOTP! I've been a fan of the books and the author for 60+ years.

@WilliamWood10 @HannahWardEdu @SuGreer And like Laura and Grace, it is believed that she died (age 75) from complications from diabetes, which ran in the family. She married a widower and was a stepmother to his two children. And she had a career as a printer.

@BiblicalBeauty I chose to be a public school teacher because I saw that as the ministry to which God called me, but I was becoming increasingly frustrated because there was no way I could meet the needs of all my students & then came the state tests. Teaching changed dramatically as a result 🙁

Both of my older children needed a much longer time period than I anticipated they might need to learn to read. We kept at it, and one day, it suddenly clicked for our oldest, and she immediately became a bookworm. Our middle child has unexpectedly had a similar breakthrough this week, and is happily announcing, “I can read!” I’m so thankful for the flexibility that homeschooling provides. They were never compared to everyone else in a class or made to feel that they were failing or dumb simply because they needed more time than others to learn this vital skill. I had the freedom to adjust to their individual needs and help them keep learning in multiple other ways while we practiced reading at their own pace. Children are different, and homeschooling makes it possible to honor those differences instead of labeling them as deficiencies.

@Mamatolottacats @RuthSummie I heard about that. I don't have cable myself, but when I saw it on the tv listings at my mother's house, I chose not to watch it.

@MissDefibaugh @RuthSummie Hallmark did a movie of the first "Mitford" book - I never saw it, but I saw a trailer for it, and they ruined it. Father Tim was a young man, Dooley was about 5 years old, on and on. Jan Karon was deeply disappointed.

@MrShikaki33959 @JerseyGeneral34 @DaddyWarpig To be honest, I don't disagree with you on that. But when I was teaching grade 3, the state decided the curriculum I was to teach. I myself learned multiplication back in the 1960s when we just memorized the facts. That education served me well - and I majored in math in college.

@MrShikaki33959 @JerseyGeneral34 @DaddyWarpig 3 x 4 = 3 groups with 4 in each group 4 x 3 = 4 groups with 3 in each group Each has a total of 12, but the way the 12 are grouped is not the same. If you are using practical business calculating, you see the totals. If you are interested in math theory, you see the difference.

@MariaEyre1873 I clearly remember my mother telling me that I would not be four years old until after my nap. It would "happen" while I was napping. (I was born at 4:05 AM)

Lol. When my 4 year old was informed that when he turned 5 there would be some growing up changes, he threw a fit on and off whenever he thought about it. Then he brightened up and decided he was not going to turn 5; he was skipping it to turn 6.
Faye L Root@littlebayschool

Just remembered that after her ballet class yesterday, my 4yo informed us that another kid in her class was 5, about to turn 7. When asked about 6, she said she was skipping 6. When pressed on that, she said she was probably going to be 6 for a little while, then move quickly on to 7.

@AdamTwelv @VixenRogue Actually, the character named Nellie was a composite figure of three real life girls that Laura Ingalls disliked.

@kjgillenwater @VixenRogue Yes. The old tv show was NOT like the books. I'd like to see Laura's friends Cap Garland, Mary Power, Ida Brown, and Ben Woodworth instead of imaginary adopted kids that wet the bed or take drugs. And BTW, Mrs. Oleson was a pleasant woman in the books, even if Nellie was a brat.

@VixenRogue What I'd like it to capture is the magic of the books. Which was not the 70s/80s tv show. They had a few things that aligned with the original tale, but then went WAY WAY WAY in their own direction. I'd love to see something more authentic to the books...and this could be it.
