A win for Susan Hall and the Conservatives is a win for racists, white supremacists and Islamophobes the world over. Susan Hall’s campaign has been fought from the gutter with dangerous and divisive politics. London, we cannot let her win. Vote Sadiq. itv.com/news/2024-05-0…

@CrippyCooke @LizabethAnne32 Why would someone request special third person pronouns when they are not likely to be present to hear them being used? It's a form of narcissism. It's pure ego. I don't think it's compassionate to encourage it. Why are you so quick to deem pronoun demands innocent?

The demand to “use ‘correct’ pronouns” is the very height of gaslighting. It coerces people into stating something that they know in their hearts and heads to be untrue, while instilling in them a fear of the consequences if they dare resist. It’s the worst kind of bullying.

@CrippyCooke @Gimpuslegend Lying to appease someone who will have a tantrum if you don't refer to them correctly in the third person does cost integrity. It also teaches those making the request to become deeply embedded in damaging self obsession and desire for validation. The cost is the truth

@Frankadlingtons Unconscious bias training is a pile of crap. Any self respecting human should refuse to engage with it. Its paranoid, miserable, negative pseudo-scientific wank. Nobody wants to be a weak wanker taking a bullshit test.

Conservative Ben Bradley has... ♂️ Called for a 'Minister for Men' ⛔ Refused unconscious bias training 🍝 Said free school meal vouchers used for "brothels" ...yet his deliberate misgendering of Sam Smith and mocking of pronouns somehow protects women? 🤷🏼‍♀️ #EastMidlandsMayor

@Frankadlingtons You cannot be serious about being in leadership when you can't even get basic reality right. A man cannot be a woman. A woman cannot be a man. But for some reason you think the public are thick and will be led by the insane if you just come across as nice. It isn't nice to lie.

Greens can't win... 😔 In Amber Valley, we have 14 Green Councillors, and across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire we have even more! This May, by voting Green again, you can make me the East Midlands first ever Mayor 💚 Don't believe the establishment, Greens can and do win 💪🏼

@narindertweets @GinoKlg Please explain the concrete advantages that a white working class boy enjoys that make his life so much easier than someone with more melanin. This is horrific race essentialism. You are a race essentialist.

Working class white kids do not have the same privilege as middle class white kids. Not by a long shot. But white working class do have (some) advantage over black or brown working class kids.

@greg_ashman “Simplistic”? Your fellow traveller derided Freire as “written in the most turgid, arcane jargon which is completely unreadable for most teachers working in classrooms”. Can you guys pick a lane?

I recommend everyone read Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire. In doing so, you will realise how simplistic it is, how little Freire has to offer teachers today and, by extension, how little those who bang on about Freire have to offer us.

@greg_ashman I think some of the controversy is because Freire feels teachers have a moral duty to confront and transform what they perceive to be oppressive elements in society and curricula. There's a worry that teachers may view this as licence to impose their own ideologies on children.

Do I dismiss Freire because I dismiss the role of power in education? Not quite. It’s true that I dismiss the simplistic oppressor/oppressed framing of critical theory that denies people agency and keeps them ignorant. However, I do believe that mass education is empowering. To change the system for the better, you need lots of knowledge and skills. Education gets you there. Educating the disadvantaged and marginalised gives them power. But a denuded, ineffective education based on slogans won’t do that. So I mainly reject Freire’s ideas because of their uselessness.

Scotland has a different legal system to the rest of GB. The SNP want independence but are too lazy to do the work. They have powers to get justice for the postmasters. They should stop whining and get on with it! Mr Yousaf has also confused Royal Mail with the Post Office🙄
Humza Yousaf@HumzaYousaf

The UK Government's decision to extend Horizon legislation to every nation in the UK except Scotland is scandalous. The fact the Tories are willing to use Scottish victims of the Royal Mail's Horizon system as a political football is unforgivable. The PM must change course.

@LBC If he can afford to sacrifice his life to the job then fine but I'd like to see how many staff, many with their own families, would be willing to put in 12 hours a day. I'll be generous and assume he is thinking of a shift pattern or outside providers

A teacher tries to indoctrinate children with gender ideology. It's not harmless. It's compelled speech. As Machiavelli knew, once you force someone to say something they don't believe, you can make them do other things incongruent with their morality. Fortunately the kids clearly see it as a load of bollocks.
