Imagine being well until last week, then vomiting all week, come to A&E with suspected appendicitis to find out you have cancer that has spread all over and have a prognosis of less than 3months, and you are only 43yrs old. God this job is hard sometimes #LDacuteliaison

Back in a learning disability acute liaison role… today’s lesson: remembered how much of a fight you have to put up for these individuals, and how much you p*ss off some people with your perseverance. #ALN #rnld

“Thank you SUDEP Action for your support with the Charlie Card. It breaks my heart and terrifies me that this is even needed... I am outraged that medical professionals don't understand that anti-seizure medications are literally lifesaving.” @IPAPharmacy @ESNA_epilepsy

“The short answer for why I am donating regularly is because the day after my wife, Sarah, died was the first time I heard of SUDEP. If we had known about SUDEP, what it was, what it could do, I believe my wife would still be here." - (Thomas Pearmain) sudep.org/why-i-am-donat…

A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27: “It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young. At 26, I thought I had time… To fall in love. Start a family. Grow old. But cancer doesn’t care about plans. Now, I understand how fragile life really is. Every single day is a gift, not a guarantee. I’m not writing this to scare you. I’m writing to remind you: really live. Stop stressing over little things. Be kind to your body- move it, nourish it, stop criticizing it. One day you’ll wish you had appreciated it. Go outside. Look at the sky. Feel the sun. Just be. Spend less time chasing “stuff” - more time making memories. Don’t skip moments with people you love. Laugh more. Write a note. Tell someone you love them. Complain less. Give more. Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy. Be present. Put your phone down. Show up - really show up. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect body, or a perfect life. Just follow what makes your heart light up. Say no to what drains you. Make changes when you need to. And please - donate blood. I wouldn’t have had that extra year without it. And that year gave me memories I’ll hold close… forever. Thank you for reading this. Live your life well. And maybe… we’ll meet again someday.” Holly 🩷 Repost & share Holly’s important advice. ❤️

So unless things change quickly, I’ll be having a career change. So many nursing vacancies not to mention a huge drop in LD nurses, and Ludacris rules. I’m not surprised the health service is in the state it is #rnld

Exploring work options as I’m relocating… agency only accepts my LD skills i.e gastro feeds, if they have been within the last 12months. Because I now work in an adult setting, I’m basically an adult nurse without adult nurse skills so can’t get a RN job or an RNLD one 🤯 #rnld

Today I spent the morning with the lovely residents at The Meath talking hospital experiences and reasonable adjustments that are and aren’t in place. Always made to feel very welcome #themeath #godalming #EpilepsyCNS #rnld

It’s been a week, I’d be happy with a job in Tesco right now, the workload has been relentless, stacking shelves or sitting on the till would be much less stressful then my current situation #rnld

I may always moan about my huge workload, and doing lots of things that aren’t in my job description, but this is exactly why I do it… the difference it makes to people’s lives. Never just epilepsy #epilepsyCNS #rnld

Started as an RNLD in a special school, then perused my passion for epilepsy working in a specialist setting again with people with LD. Now an Epilepsy CNS talking about mental health daily and to ppl in their 20s with incurable brain tumours. How versatile are we!? #reflecting
