Happy Mother’s Day!! 💐

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted…! Check out our most recent number talks. Lots of great thinking going on!

We are reviewing all of our weekly words and sound patterns we have learned so far!

We have learned about procedural writing. Students chose one to turn into a mini book! Yesterday, they edited their work using a checklist. And now we are working on our mini books! Stay tuned for the finished pieces!!

We had a fun 100th day of school on Monday! They wrote 100 words, did a read & find of 100 words, and went on a number hunt around the room. Then they had to figure out where their number goes on a blank pocket chart. It was a great day! 😁

In Science, we watched a video to learn how hot air balloons work. Then we did an experiment! It didn’t work at first though… so we talked about how things don’t always go how we planned & that’s ok! With a couple tweaks, we got it to work! Ask your child about it!

Our first week back was great!! We did some tricky math, made some fireworks art, and increased our reading stamina! They did an awesome job! 👏

In Math, we are learning different strategies to add 2 digit numbers!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted..! Here are some things we’ve been up to in the classroom!

Today we played Musical Blends! 🎶 I played some music while students moved around the room. When the music stopped, students had to find a desk with a blend on it and think of another word that starts with that blend. They had fun moving to the music and doing some learning!

In art, we read a book about different kinds of lines. Then we chose one type of line and used it when making our monsters! We also learned a new painting technique- splattering! They did a great job on their monsters!

We did our first Number Talk last week! Students have to solve each one without paper (they can use their fingers if they need to). Then they share their strategies for solving them. Throughout the year, students will learn new strategies to help them solve more efficiently!

Last week the Place Value Bandit was on the loose and broke into our classroom! ⚠️ Students had to do a place value investigation and sort through clues in order to determine which number was the Place Value Bandit!

We did lots of fun things last week! We got to share our Family books with our classmates.

We ended the week by playing Kahoot for the first time! The kids had so much fun, I don’t think they even realized it was educational! 🤫😄

We learned/reviewed our first spelling rule- the f, l, s, z doubling rule!

Students are already doing a great job during writing time! ✏️ We have talked about conventions and are working on making sure we remember them when we are writing!

We read ‘The Best Story’ and learned that the best stories come from our hearts. So we added special memories & all the things that are important to us to our heart. These are now the covers for our writing folders. When we don’t know what to write about, we can check our ❤️! ✏️
