From passage ➡️ student-created organizer ➡️ paragraph ✍️ My 2nd graders are pulling key details from the text, organizing their thinking, and turning it into clear informational writing with transitions and complete sentences.

My co-teacher @MrsPayne_MCS uses these in the classroom & the students are showing awesome growth with their letters and sounds! I recommend checking these out! Embedded Picture Mnemonics – Print Files – ONlit.org share.google/Ez2B8GsMX0MrGu…

Teacher Leaders are key to schools. Show me a high-functioning school and I will show you Teacher Leaders. A principal cannot lead alone.

Shifting to the science of reading requires more than saying it. It means letting go of misaligned practices. When leadership allows both to coexist, implementation suffers and results stall.
missy purcell@MissyPurcell

New York is a cautionary tale. You can invest millions in “science of reading,” but if the wrong people are leading it, you risk recreating the same failed systems under a new name. Leadership isn’t optional. It’s everything. hechingerreport.org/new-york-ten-m…

Call me a radical, but NO. We should not be replacing teachers in America with robots. We should attract the best and brightest in our country to become teachers and pay them the decent wages that they deserve.

You deserve to work somewhere that feels good to walk into each day. If your building is draining you, it’s okay to leave. Change is hard, but so is being miserable. Teaching is already tough, and the wrong environment can take the joy out of it and make you question everything.
Nicholas Ferroni@NicholasFerroni

If you’re a teacher and your first thought walking into school is “what is going to happen today” or “I just have to get through today”—instead of what you’ll be teaching—something isn’t right in your school culture. And you deserve better.

Too many times, I’ve come across the misconception that when a student receives Tier 3 intervention, they no longer need Tier 1 and/or Tier 2. That it replaces instruction. It doesn’t. Tier 3 is layered on top of strong instruction, not a replacement for it. Because the goal isn’t to pull students out of learning… it’s to give them more access to it. And when we get that wrong, we don’t just miss the mark, we limit the very growth we’re trying to create.

Our TBTs are doing the work that matters. We’ve put in the time to make them truly impactful & the payoff is real with stronger teaching and student growth. We are having cross-grade conversations, clear goals, digging into data, and adjusting instruction in real time. 💛📊📚

Spring break is here, and I hope every kid feels safe, cared for, and surrounded by love this week. For some, school is their most consistent place, and that doesn’t go unnoticed. Holding those students extra close in my heart until they’re back in our room 🖤❤️

Today we wrapped up our CKLA Human Body unit with a fun learning activity! 🫀 2nd graders worked with partners to build human bodies with the organs we studied and wrote a paragraph about what they learned. A great way to end the unit!

Teachers visiting for PD today asked, “Is your building always like this?” referring to the music at drop off, laughter in the halls, and friendly staff. Yes. Because culture isn’t accidental. It’s the standard we set and the vibe we create for our kids and each other every day.
Emily Paschall@EmilyAPaschall

Words I heard recently that stuck with me: “Culture is the vibe we set and the standard we practice.” Not the posters on the wall. Not just what we say. It’s the actions we repeat every single day.

Cookie Tray Arrays for the win! 🍪 We used cookies for some extra array practice today. The hands on learning made the math stick, and the kids loved getting to build, solve, and then enjoy a sweet treat after showing their thinking. Math + a little chocolate = a great day in 2B!

My dad used to say: "You should never be outworked or out-prepared." There will always be people smarter than you and more talented than you. But you control the effort and the prep.
