People’s Democratic Party (PDP) strongly condemns the decision to remove Urdu as a mandatory qualification from the revenue recruitment rules in Jammu and Kashmir. This move represents a deliberate attempt to sideline and erase Urdu from the administrative framework of the region, despite its historic and institutional significance. Urdu has for generations been the backbone of revenue records, land documentation, and official communication in Jammu and Kashmir. Diluting its role is not only culturally insensitive but also administratively unsound. Removing Urdu from revenue services will create practical challenges in handling existing records and weaken the continuity of governance. The PDP views this decision as part of a broader pattern of undermining the linguistic and cultural identity of Jammu and Kashmir. Such steps disregard the region’s history and the deep connection people have with the language. We urge the government to immediately withdraw this notification and restore Urdu as an essential qualification for revenue posts. How disheartening that it took our Chief Minister the only Muslim CM of India’s only Muslim majority state an entire month to unequivocally condemn Israel’s dastardly attack on Iran. Even the Punjab assembly acted swiftly becoming the first to pass a resolution to condemn and show its solidarity with Iran. Yet the J&K government showed no such urgency or genuine concern choosing to limit its responses to mere rhetoric and speeches instead of a clear and principled stand.

Hon’ble Home Minister @AmitShah ji I recently tweeted a video of a @JmuKmrPolice officer raining blows on women protestors in Srinagar for mourning the tragic assassination of Ayotallah Ali Khamani. There were also other credible instances where police officers had misbehaved & thrashed protestors causing grievous injuries. Within 48 hours the DG has passed a senseless unwarranted order shuffling & singling out only my security officers. At a time when the situation in Kashmir remains worryingly fragile it’s baffling & strange in equal measure that the top police officer’s priority isn’t to restore a sense of peace & normalcy. But instead harass those who speak truth to power. Under what law is it illegal or punishable to highlight misconduct of those in uniform? I faced similar harassment after visiting Bilawar in Feb 2025 where a man committed suicide in mysterious circumstances right after being tortured in police custody. I’ve been at the receiving end many times previously too where my security detail has been deliberately downgraded or transferred to teach me a lesson & remain silent on the transgressions of certain police officials. This exposes a much larger rot entrenched in the higher ranks & echelons of the security grid & police who harass people for speaking the truth in Kashmir which takes precedence & priority over more grave matters of security. Their energies & focus should have been on ensuring normalcy instead of harassing individuals.

At the time when we are to reflect on the life & martyrdom of Khameni, you as an elected are exhibiting the worst ignorance by becoming someone’s bidder. Well today police have beaten up the women protesting against the unholy assaination of Ayatollah Seyyed Imam Ali Khamenei but hey go ahead talk in platitudes . And I am sure you will Do the “right thing” by keeping quiet 🤫 and Serve the master right as he just returned from Israel .

BJP leaders pose in mosques abroad and roll out red carpets for Middle Eastern sheikhs. But back home they watch with glee the shrine of Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah being vandalised. This hypocrisy is not accidental but deliberate. Destroying symbols of harmony is easier than answering for rising poverty, mass unemployment and a future stolen from the younger generation.

Another video of an innocent Kashmiri man being dehumanised, humiliated & thrashed only because he refuses to chant Vande Mataram. Surprised that @cmohry @HaryanaPolice27 @DGPHaryana are allowing this to happen with such impunity. You can’t force us to chant Vande Mataram or Jai Shree Ram. Deal with it.

Since my childhood, I’ve watched Farooq Abdullah keep changing colours, faces, stands, promises, priorities, positions, narratives, and slogans but never his opportunism.

This heartbreaking video of a mother’s desperation to walk hundreds of miles from Kashmir to Kot Bilawal Jail in Jammu just to see her imprisoned son shows the silent suffering of families whose loved ones are kept in far away prisons. It’s why I approached the Honourable High Court to request that undertrials be shifted to their native jails so families can visit them with dignity and support their legal fight. Hoping for a compassionate view.

Turning families landless is exactly why the PDP’s Land Rights & Anti-Bulldozer Bill was so important. A bill rejected by NC and BJP in the J&K Assembly, a vote that ignored the pain of people losing homes, land and dignity.

Shri Ved Bhasin, founder of Kashmir Times, built one of the boldest voices in J&K. A fearless, truthful, and impossible to silence. His daughter @AnuradhaBhasin_ carried that legacy forward with the same grit. For decades, the paper exposed some of Kashmir’s biggest stories of human rights abuses, disappearances, governance failures, and major political shifts. Through every threat and every pressure, Kashmir Times stood unshaken, never bowing before the state and always standing by the truth.

Bilal Wani an anguished father from Wanpora Qazigund has set himself on fire after his son Jasir Bilal & brother Naveel Wani were detained by the police a few days ago. Petrified about their safety he pleaded with the authorities to just see them which was denied. He has been referred to SMHS Srinagar & is in critical condition. This level of high handedness only deepens wounds and breeds despair. When young men are picked up randomly we risk driving an entire generation into fear, frustration & ultimately towards darker paths. Request @JmuKmrPolice to at least allow him to meet the detained members.

GOI has a choice to make. You can choose to further stoke the deep seated distrust & alienation Kashmiris feel by seeing all of us as terrorists or adopt a more humane compassionate approach by pursuing justice that doesn’t invalidate a Kashmiri’s sense of dignity or ruin his life. Collective punishment can’t be the solution.
