Just two minutes of laughter can benefit your heart as much as a 20-minute walk, according to research from the University of Maryland Medical Center.
When you laugh, your blood vessels expand, increasing blood flow and improving circulation throughout your body. This temporary boost in vessel function helps deliver more oxygen to your tissues, similar to the effects of light aerobic exercise.
Laughter also reduces stress hormones, which can otherwise strain the cardiovascular system over time. In a simple and natural way, a genuine laugh acts like a mini workout for your heart.
