Come and hear how, across multiple contexts, I've integrated robotics into the regular, MYP Design curriculum so that all students get the opportunity to design, build and program robots. Learn more about the @21cli Maker and STEAM Spaces Symposium here: 21c-learning.com/events/maker-a…

#ScienceForLife: Day 4: Knowing is different than believing Simple definition of knowledge = justified true belief Eg it’s true, we believe it’s true, & we have good reasons for believing it.   Basically, evidence matters! 1/2 Reading: thinkingispower.com/is-certainty-k…

@twowaystairs Seems interesting, but really not a fan of Peterson. Will check it out on your recommendation.

@malikah_sheriff For example, culture in Bangkok was completely different in the 90's compared to today.

How would you describe the relationship between knowledge & culture? One students described it as "interdependent" which I think is a great word for it. If I had to draw it, it would look something like this:

@fang_wangNIST Motivation is a big factor. Culture too. And perspective/purpose. If you see yourself as an educator and professional, then it's an expectation you want to maintain. If you see teaching as a salaried job, then no need to grow/reflect/improve/etc.

@MisterNorris The ability to reflect requires the skills built in metacognition. How can help teachers to keep developing metacognition as we help our students?

I don't believe that more years spending on teaching would transform a mediocre teacher automatically to a master lever. But what might stop a teacher's professional growth in the art of teaching?

@MisterNorris In my mind, knowledge of this universe is independent of culture. However culture (root colere;Latin for nurture) perhaps organizes & adapts it to community of knowers of a time. This creates interdependence b/c endorsement of what we know is as important as how & why we know it.

@MisterNorris Two cases- I learnt all my major and minor scales through fooling around on a piano and sightreading sheet music my mum left around, when I was finally taught how sharps and flats work it made sense because I could feel it under my fingers. 2/

@alisonmusicblog Yes, I talk about this all the time. You can have knowledge of how to do something, but not be able to actually apply it in the real world. Coaches are a great example. E.g. Phil Jackson could coach Jordan/Kobe, but wouldn't be able to do execute his instruction himself.

@MisterNorris It is possible to study some musics without touching an instrument, but there is so much that you come to understand through tactile and auditory engagement with an instrument. 1/
