Today started in Lincolnshire with the Snow Goose aswell as 2 Long-eared Owls and a Raven, then onto Rutland for the stunning Red-necked Grebe and just as we began heading south news broke of the Red-flanked Bluetail near Dereham so we had to make a detour! @MisterJamesP8

Happy New Year! As per recent Jan 1sts I’ve done a local (c10km from home) list. 107 was a personal best tally. I missed Sparrowhawk/Jay but had lots of highlights incl this Jack Snipe (using thermal - thanks @MisterThomasP) and both Great Northern (pic) & Black-throated Divers.

I was pleased to see the Bittern is still lurking around UEA broad this afternoon, 2 weeks after it was initially discovered, also a small flock of Redpoll were a nice surprise.

Pleased to refind the Bittern at UEA broad again today and watch it feed until dusk, I was then absolutely blown away when an Otter popped up next to me! Sadly too dark for my camera by this point, but an absolute joy to watch it fishing alongside the Bittern!
