Players celebrating goals with shooting gestures and symbols associated with violence are glorifying the very scenes that Iranians witnessed on the streets on January 8 and 9.
Yet FIFA remains silent, turning a blind eye and effectively giving its approval.
When we say this is not the people’s team, this is exactly what we mean. A player who turns guns and intimidation into a symbol of pride is not representing the people. If that same mentality is taken from the football pitch to the streets, it does not create heroes—it creates those who stand against the people.
Silence in the face of the glorification of violence is not neutrality. It is complicity.
