@handsometuesda9 @PortilloBros You should watch the first period of Yonger vs Szuba from the dual!

@JacquelineCord @cyclonefanatic Maybe a section on Non-Cyclones to note (former Cyclones, native Iowans, this absolutely bonkers freshman class etc)

Hey @cyclonefanatic readers: I am putting together a general guide for the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships. It'll have important information on how to watch, storylines and other key details. I want it to serve all levels of interest in the sport. Even if you're more of a casual fan who will tune in most online.
My question for all of you: Are there certain areas or specifics you'd like me to explain?
I had a friend ask me about how allocations for each conference and wrestlers work. It made me realize it is very different in comparison to what we all know for basketball. So I'd love to be a resource and include that type of information in this guide! Let me know here or shoot me a DM. I just want to be helpful 😃

@JacquelineCord @cyclonefanatic Team points, especially placement points, are a consistent question I get. Direct links for Flo (and how to set wrestler alerts) and matcast/arena view would be great with Flo taking over TrackWrestling this year

@douglas1271941 @handsometuesda9 Dislocated his shoulder 4x at B12s. He gutted it out impressively to qualify, but it's hard to believe that shoulder will make it through all of NCAAs. 😬
English

@Cornell_Kevins So long as he keeps healthy, I can see it. He definitely wrestles like a man who has never once questioned the ligaments in his knees 😂
English

@MatScouts1 Ah thanks. That thing they say about assumptions, huh? 😂
English

@wrestlingnomad I wish ESPN would use BTN's scorebug. ESPN's is impossible to see in quadbox and is only going to be worse with 8 mats.

@CycloneWR Does Iowa not sending Williams mean they only preallocate 7 and there are 5 at larges for 157?
English

157 | Vinny Zerban will medically forfeit his quarterfinal match this afternoon and subsequent consolation match this evening, concluding his Big 12 Championship.
#Cyclones
English

@VOlthoff @JacquelineCord He is likely to get an at large if he's medically clear, but it does require one of the 4 at large spots, so cross your fingers for 157 to go chalk at the other tournaments 😬
English

@JacquelineCord Ok - dumb question perhaps, but can he wrestle in the NCAA tournament at this point? I know it depends sometimes on weight class, at-larges, etc., but any chance at all or is he completely done?
English

I’ll let my emotions fly for a little bit that I have a second but I’m just heartbroken for Vinny Zerban.
You’re so so close and then one bad move and next thing you know you have a concussion. Just so unfortunate. Selfishly, I was really excited to see his run. He looked good in that match too.
It also impacts Iowa State’s team race. A lot of points gone from losing a guy like Zerban.
English

@AlldayOstate Anyone who can (I assume) dislocate his shoulder twice and still only give up a decision deserves a ton of credit. I hope it holds up for him to make it through March.
English

@Okebllrdr1982 @PPetesStache @CowboyWrestling @TheOSUSuperhero They changed the near fall requirements. It's 1.5 tournament or 5 in a dual whether or not you have near fall now.
English

@PPetesStache @CowboyWrestling @TheOSUSuperhero 1 point for a win. Bonus points are 1 point for a major dec or tech fall w/o near fall points, 1.5 points for tech w/ near fall, 2 points for fall or win by dq

Hey @JacquelineCord and/or @allysonschwab - any update on Andersen? Broadcast panned away and didn't really follow up after the ID call.
English

@cyclonefanatic Hey @cyclonefanatic - I'm seeing lots of conflicting reports about Title IX and D1/FBS requirements. Could we get a breakdown of what is actually required (if anything) in replacing gymnastics? Thanks!

BREAKING: Iowa State has made the decision to discontinue the women’s gymnastics program. Here’s the full press release from the athletic department:
The Iowa State University Athletics Department will discontinue its women’s gymnastics program and replace it with another sport that provides equal or additional participation opportunities for women, ISU Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard announced today.
Scholarship commitments will be honored for any women’s gymnast who elects to remain at ISU to complete their degree program and they will continue to be afforded access to all departmental services available to Cyclone student-athletes through the duration of their undergraduate academic career.
Iowa State Gymnastics FAQ
Why was ISU’s 2026 gymnastics season cancelled after four competitions?
The decision to suspend the season resulted from a series of complex internal conflicts between individual teammates, coaching staff members, and parents. These conflicts created unreconcilable differences that not only prevented our team from competing, but they also prevented team members from carrying on their daily activities, including practice. In the end, suspending the remainder of the season was the only viable alternative after in-depth conversations with the student-athletes, coaching and support staff members.
What will happen to the gymnasts on this year’s ISU team?
They will have the option to remain at Iowa State to complete their degrees, in which case, their scholarships will be honored, and they will have full access to the services available to all Cyclone student-athletes. They will also have the option to transfer to other universities to compete in gymnastics and would be supported throughout this process, too. Our department will also work with the NCAA on waivers for impacted to student-athletes to receive an additional year of competition since ISU’s 2025-26 season was cancelled after four competitions.
What type of services are available to the impacted student-athletes?
ISU gymnasts will continue to have access to all support services and benefits that were previously available to them as a member of the gymnastics team to include:
•Medical & Athletic Training - Full access to athletic trainers, team physicians and rehabilitation services.
•Mental Health & Counseling - Confidential mental health support is available through the athletic department’s mental health services staff.
•Academic Support - Tutoring, academic advising, learning specialists and study hall remain fully available.
•Student-Athlete Development - Life-skills programming, career services and leadership development opportunities will continue.
What will happen to the incoming recruits for the 2026-27 academic year?
Like ISU’s current student-athletes, they will have the opportunity to attend Iowa State and have their scholarship agreements honored.
What will happen to the gymnastics coaches?
They have been notified their employment agreements will not be renewed.
How long has ISU had a women’s gymnastics program?
The program started in 1973-74 and won four conference championships, the most recent of which came in 2006.
When was the last time ISU discontinued a sports program?
Iowa State has discontinued four men’s programs since 1994—men’s gymnastics (1994), men’s tennis (1994), baseball (2001) and men’s swimming & diving (2001).
How will ISU identify its next women’s sport to add?
The ISU Athletics Department will take the next several months to research options which provide meaningful participation and scholarship opportunities for future Iowa State students.

@Birdieman9313 @JacquelineCord Thanks! Saw the talk about potential but missed that it actually got called.

@CycloneWR Genuine question - can we get Dean a different brand of headgear?
