TWO SUSPECTS NABBED AFTER THEY WERE FOUND WITH SCORES OF RIFLE AMMUNITION Members of the Middelburg Flying Squad in MP arrested two male suspects, aged 36 and 39, for unlawful possession of ammunition during a routine patrol operation conducted on Thursday, 18 June 2026. At approximately 20:00, members were performing crime prevention patrol duties along the N12 highway in the Ogies policing area when they stopped and searched a black BMW 1 Series with Gauteng registration plates. The vehicle was occupied by two males, one a South African national and the other a Mozambican national. During the search, members discovered a black plastic bag concealed inside a first-aid kit located in the vehicle’s boot. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. The occupants were questioned regarding the ammunition but failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or produce documentation authorising them to possess it. Both suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition. The following items were confiscated: * 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition * Two cellular phones. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
