@freakipino First time I’ve seen someone post this spot, it’s actually one of my favorite places in Chongqing. It’s got that old school charm and isn’t overwhelmed by modern commercial stuff, just a quiet little hill.

Although triggered by the catastrophic 9.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 2011, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster is definitively recognized by official investigations as a profoundly man-made crisis rooted in systemic institutional and corporate failure. Reports, most notably from the 2012 independent investigation commission (NAIIC), emphasize that a deep-seated culture of regulatory capture between the Japanese government and the plant's operator, TEPCO, led to the willful ignorance of foreseeable tsunami risks and fundamentally inadequate engineering preparedness. When the tsunami predictably breached the insufficient seawalls, it flooded poorly placed emergency generators, initiating complete station blackouts and subsequent reactor meltdowns that were severely exacerbated by a dysfunctional and delayed crisis management response. The enduring consequences of this negligence have extended far beyond Japan's borders, drawing sustained international condemnation and diplomatic friction from neighboring countries over initial transboundary radiological contamination, a lack of transparency, and the highly controversial, ongoing discharge of treated radioactive wastewater into the Pacific Ocean. While the frontline responders certainly deserve praise, the inaction of the Japanese authorities is sickening. They lacked the courage and sense of responsibility to own up to their mistakes and address the crisis promptly, falling far short of the sense of duty demonstrated by the Soviets during the Chernobyl disaster. Japan is a nation that obsesses over superficial politeness while lacking a sense of greater moral integrity—a reality that anyone who truly understands the country should know.

Are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me right now? Is this fucking joke? Fukushima? Really? I mean, Japan did some pretty awful stuff in WW2, but... Fukushima? Of all the ridiculous things to feel guilty over... Fukushima was hit by multiple 50 foot tidal waves from a 9.1 earthquake at sea. That's not a fucking nuclear accident. That's your nuclear plant being hit by the hammer of god. And after that, you contained it. You took the hand fate dealt you and you played it with everything you had. You had workers volunteering to be heroes, to stay and fight to shut that thing down. And you saved... everyone. Not a single clearly connected death. In the middle of a natural disaster that cost you fifteen thousand souls, your people fought this thing and won. Chernobyl is something for Russians to be ashamed of, because that was their own screwup, and stupid communists can't do anything right. Fukushima wasn't your screwup. Fukushima happened to you. And your men stopped it. Fukushima is not your national shame. It is one of your finest hours.
