Is the Glock 19 still the gold standard for EDC?

Yeah, for his first firearm especially I would rather go with something like a Glock. It gives you peace of mind knowing you have something that will go bang every time, and even if something does break eventually, you can get spare parts pretty much anywhere. At worst you can overnight from Jizni. I would also suggest a second handgun when possible, also Glock, CZ, or Beretta. Just in case you have to use it and SAPS takes it for ballistics and leaves you without that firearm for over a year. When you get to your third handgun you can start playing around with all the different brands and calibres. If he can conceal a Glock 45, then that would be my suggestion. Or even if he isn't going to carry it. 17+1, perfectly balanced, reliable, durable, really nice to shoot.
