Here is another #HeroesofOttawa. Micheline Boileau-Bougon, the inspiring principal at St. Michael’s Elementary in Ottawa's East end, is deeply committed to making sure every student feels valued and supported. Along with her dedicated team, she organized a special morning for students with diverse learning needs, giving them the unique opportunity to embark on a guided bus tour around the neighborhood. This unforgettable experience not only helped them learn about their community and practice safety on public transportation, but also, and most importantly, made them feel included. For many, it was their very first time riding a school bus. As a principal, Micheline is guided by the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs. She is always seeking creative ways to blend classroom learning with real-world experiences, ensuring that students are fully prepared for whatever lies ahead. Her ultimate goal is to help every student feel confident, capable, and ready to face the challenges of the future. One parent, Tanya Godin, shared how deeply touched she was by Micheline’s impact, saying, “As a mother to twin boys who are nonverbal with autism, I cannot express how deeply this effort has touched my soul. Watching my children experience an environment where they are embraced, supported, and included is the greatest gift I could ever receive.” Micheline’s work is a great example of how inclusive education can make a real difference. She’s not just running a school; she’s building a community where every child, regardless of their abilities or challenges, can thrive. Her dedication to opening doors for every student is truly inspiring, and her leadership continues to set a powerful example of inclusivity and compassion in education. We are so lucky to have her among our #HeroesofOttawa. See more: marksutcliffe.ca/heroes-of-otta…
