@COsoccerpod in regards to @agundling ‘s book, my chat with my experienced referee friends including an MLS AVAR, we all agree that no one knows what a handball is anymore. Every competition treats it differently. It’s utter madness. 2 new chapters this week in the CL semis.

2. As an experienced marathoner Andrew’s analogy was very apropos. It’s typical for form to break down at the end. Most runners will move to a heel strike and do what they need to do to get over the line in the last 5K.

He likely was told in his headset that it was a second caution. This is a situation the referee can manage. A card isn’t wrong but the expected response is to chew him out but let him off without a 2nd card. If it was his first no problem.

@COsoccerpod 2 things: 1. @agundling was right when he said the ref forgot that Camavinga was on a yellow. The ref even turns away after showing the yellow which you would never do if you were expecting to show a red. That should not happen to a referee at this level.

I’m going to need to hear @JJDevaney’s thoughts on the @COsoccerpod even if it’s on the plus side about Rory’s shot at Irish cuisine! 🤣 I can say as a descendant of both Italian and Irish, we didn’t eat many traditional Irish dishes growing up so I would tend to agree.

@COsoccerpod @agundling, I wish I could say I was there from the beginning, but I started listening to you guys in the fall of 2016. Since then I basically have not missed an episode. I signed up to referee that summer and decided I needed to understand the game better.

@JJDevaney @agundling it isn’t really going to start a fight but if you crossover and dribble between the other players legs and then go in for the layup, that will guarantee a much more physical play the next time you try to drive. @COsoccerpod

@MnReferee @agundling Don’t intervene in the grappling before the kick is taken. Minute the ball is played- blow the whistle.

@JJDevaney @agundling regarding JJs suggestion that grappling is given as a free kick, a free kick cannot be given because the ball is not in play until the corner has been taken. The only legal recourse is a yellow card until the kick is taken.

@agundling @JJDevaney my other Olympics hot take is that all major team sports shouldn’t be included. (Soccer, basketball, hockey, baseball) They should have their own competitions/world cups. Olympics should be for the other sports that can’t carry a competition on their own

@agundling @JJDevaney I think Andrew and I are very similar people. Haha. I spent hours giving people my hot take that all subjective sports with judges should be removed from the Olympics. Judging in ski jumping is absolute nonsense.
