After years of opposition to US–Israeli aggression, some now appear willing to suspend all critical analysis in favour of a minority of Iranian’s right to protest, despite the full knowledge these ‘protests’ are in fact riots orchestrated by foreign agents, they tacitly align themselves with the very imperial agenda they reject and rightly oppose against Palestinians. Of course all Iranians should have the right to peaceful protest, but currently, the timing is clearly off. Opposition to Zionism in online spaces is easier; acknowledging and respecting the material sacrifices of those engaged in tangible resistance is evidently more demanding. The speed with which such sacrifices are minimised or erased reveals a shallow politics divorced from reality. A serious commitment to Palestine requires for such actors to engage with, rather than dismiss, the perspectives of the resistance itself and to recalibrate their positions accordingly, if not out of principle, then at least out of responsibility to the Palestinian people.
