London loves to debate who belongs. The funny part? Most of us shaping the conversation didn’t start here 🌍 Foreign-born leaders ✈️ Muslim Londoners 🕌 Egyptian roots 🇪🇬 Dubai chapters 🇦🇪 None of this is unusual in a city like London — it’s the norm. What’s unusual is the full picture. African-born 🌍 Middle Eastern roots 🌙 Arab and Semitic heritage European links through Turkey 🇹🇷 and Greece 🇬🇷 Family roots in Morocco 🇲🇦 and Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 Not a checklist. A lived experience. That mix isn’t about identity politics. It’s about understanding the world London competes in — global markets, global talent, global cities. London doesn’t need louder slogans. It needs broader vision. #LondonPolitics #GlobalLondon #Leadership #FutureOfLondon #Perspective #MoLondon #GreatLondon

Influenced of Arabic on different languages in Europe. The extent of this influence varies greatly from country to country, depending largely on historical contact with Arabic-speaking cultures-especially through trade, science, and centuries of Islamic presence in regions like the Iberian Peninsula. Spanish and Portuguese show particularly strong Arabic influence, with thousands of words in each language originating from Arabic due to the Moors’ rule over Iberia for several centuries. English, French, and Turkish also have a notable number of Arabic-derived words, though through different routes-often via science, mathematics, or religious texts during the Islamic Golden Age. Turkish, due to its Ottoman history and prolonged interactions with Arab regions, features the highest count here. Follow our second page World Data Behind Maps

🌏👦🏻 Countries that are origin of White people according to 1998 U.S. Census Bureau. This map reflects how the 1997 U.S. Census Bureau defined “white” origins, highlighting most of Europe, parts of North Africa, and Western Asia. The classification follows an older U.S. demographic framework that grouped people from these regions under a single racial category. It’s important to understand that this is a census definition, not a scientific or universal standard. Racial categories vary by country and era, and modern discussions around identity are far more complex than the simplified classifications used in past census systems. We’ve recently reached a small milestone on the @GreatLondonPod Podcast — 50 followers 🎧 It’s still early days, but it’s good to see gradual and steady growth, with more people starting to tune in to conversations around London, local communities, Canary Wharf, and wider city issues 🏙️ This milestone isn’t huge, but it’s a reminder that consistency matters. Every episode, every conversation, and every perspective shared is part of building something long-term 📊 We’ve been focusing on simple, honest discussions with entrepreneurs, residents, and voices from across London — and slowly, that’s starting to resonate 👥 There’s still a long way to go, and a lot more to improve, but we’re moving in the right direction. More episodes, more guests, and more real conversations coming soon 🎙️ If you’ve been listening or supporting in any way, it’s appreciated 👍 #GreatLondonPodcast #London #CanaryWharf #TowerHamlets #LondonLife #PodcastUK #LocalVoices #LondonElections2026 #CommunityMatters #UKPodcast #StartSmallGrowBig

In Trento, Italy, there’s a wild tradition called La Tonca — and it’s as brutal (and hilarious) as it sounds. Back in the 14th century, it was a real punishment. Offenders were locked in a cage and dunked into the freezing Adige River. 🥶 Today? It’s been turned into a public spectacle. Every June, during a week-long festival, the city puts on a mock trial where locals nominate politicians and public figures for their biggest blunders of the year. No one is safe. 👀 From delayed projects to embarrassing mistakes… the crowd decides who messed up the most. Then comes the final moment. On the last day, the “winner” is locked in a medieval-style cage, lifted over the river… and dunked straight into the water as the entire town cheers. 😳🌊 A medieval punishment turned into a modern-day tradition. And honestly… some people might wish this existed everywhere. 😅

Women's Suffrage before or after 1940 in Europe 🙋‍♀️ Women’s suffrage in Europe developed gradually during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with many countries granting women the right to vote before 1940. Several Northern and Western European nations were among the earliest adopters, influenced by strong social movements advocating political equality and democratic reforms. However, in parts of Southern and Southeastern Europe, women obtained voting rights later, often after major political changes following World War II or shifts in government systems. A few countries introduced full suffrage even later in the 20th century, reflecting how cultural, political, and historical circumstances shaped the pace at which gender equality in voting rights was achieved across the continent. Monarchies vs Republic in each European Country Europe today is predominantly made up of republics, where the head of state is usually an elected president rather than a monarch. Most countries across Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe follow this republican system, including large nations such as France, Germany, Italy, and Poland. In these states, political power typically rests with elected institutions, reflecting modern democratic governance structures. However, several European countries remain constitutional monarchies, mainly concentrated in Northern and Western Europe. Nations such as the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden maintain royal families, although their monarchs usually serve largely ceremonial roles while elected governments handle political decision-making. These monarchies often combine long historical traditions with modern democratic systems. Follow our second page GeoData & Rankings

The Iranian diaspora is one of the largest and most globally dispersed communities from the Middle East. Today, around four million people of Iranian origin live outside Iran, though some estimates place the broader diaspora, including second generations, at well above five million. The largest community is in the United States, with well over half a million Iranian-born residents and many more of Iranian descent. Other major hubs include Canada, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and France, reflecting migration patterns shaped by politics, education, and economic opportunity. Much of this diaspora emerged after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, when political upheaval, war, and restrictions on social and political freedoms prompted many Iranians, particularly students, professionals and intellectuals, to leave the country. Over time, these communities became highly influential abroad. Iranian expatriates are often concentrated in global cities such as Los Angeles, Toronto, London, and Berlin, where they have built strong cultural, academic, and business networks. While maintaining language, traditions, and ties to Iran, the diaspora has also become an important bridge between Iran and the wider world, shaping discussions about the country’s future while contributing significantly to the societies in which they live.

Africa is home to extraordinary linguistic diversity, yet its main official languages often can be explained by the continent’s complex colonial and historical legacy. French and English dominate across large parts of West, Central and Southern Africa, a legacy of European colonial administration. Arabic stretches across North Africa and into parts of the Sahel, linking the region culturally and historically to the broader Arab world. Portuguese remains official in countries such as Angola and Mozambique, while Spanish is limited to Equatorial Guinea. At the same time, indigenous African languages also hold official status in some countries. Amharic in Ethiopia, Somali in Somalia, and Swahili in parts of East Africa represent efforts to center national identity around local linguistic heritage. Thank you to @omaraslanovv for creating this map!
