I agree with you on the core issue: a world without a stabilising United States is a far more dangerous world. Pax Americana has, for all its flaws, been the backbone of global stability, open trade and relative peace for generations. That is precisely why this situation is so painful. My point is not that America is an enemy. My point is that, for the first time in my lifetime, American actions and rhetoric are making children in allied countries even consider that possibility. And that is a tragedy – and, as you rightly say, strategically catastrophic. If a nine-year-old in Denmark, a country that has stood shoulder to shoulder with the US for decades, suddenly asks whether America might attack us and where to hide, then something profound has shifted in the moral and emotional architecture of the alliance. Not because China or Russia told him so. Not because Europe is “poisoning” him. But because signals coming out of Washington now create uncertainty about intentions, reliability and restraint. That is not anti-Americanism. It is grief. Grief over the fact that the country that once embodied predictability, leadership and moral gravity is now, at times, projecting volatility instead. Grief over seeing the very order you describe – and that I deeply value – being weakened not only from the outside, but also from within. So we are actually warning about the same thing: If the next generation in allied countries grows up fearing America rather than trusting it, Pax Americana does not die because of propaganda from Beijing or Moscow. It dies because the emotional bond of credibility and reassurance that underpinned it erodes. I want the United States to remain the stabilising force. I want my children to grow up seeing America as a protector, not as an unpredictable actor.

Pax Americana produced the greatest expansion of peace and prosperity in human history. It lifted billions out of poverty, stabilized global trade, and prevented great-power war for nearly eight decades. Pax Americana is now under direct assault. China and Russia are actively dismantling it, weaponizing trade, energy, information, and lawfare. Europeans know this. They are careful not to say much against the highly retaliatory CCP but their hate of Russia is clear and evidence that China is directly supporting Russian war efforts is overwhelming. America cannot preserve peace by pretending this threat isn’t real. The United States must recalibrate. That means reindustrializing at home, rebuilding military capacity, and restoring fiscal discipline to pay down the $34T in debt accrued not by lifting Americans out of poverty, not by giving our citizens free college or healthcare but by maintaining Pax Americana. No that money was not well spent but the results on global peace and prosperity up to the release of COVID in China is undeniable. If Pax Americana is to survive another 80 years, it must be anchored in production, not promises. Reindustrialization costs money. So does deterrence. So does paying down overwhelming debt. Yet when tariffs are proposed to fund both, critics scream offering no serious alternatives beyond soft words and blind faith in broken institutions like the UN. Instead of working with us, they smear our president as a fascist and denigrate the American people the very people who bore the greatest economic, military, and moral burden of sustaining Pax Americana. They claim to want diplomacy, yet fuel anti-American rhetoric that leaves us no choice but to play a stronger hand. And now they are doing something worse. They are teaching their own future generations to fear America not as a stabilizing force, but as an enemy. That is how peace dies: not with war, but with the deliberate poisoning of the next generation’s imagination and hope for a safe and prosperous future 👇👇
