Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu met with Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in Sri Lanka Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of sports and youth development between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. During the meeting, both Ministers exchanged views on key areas of collaboration, including athlete development, capacity building, sports education, coaching programmes, and opportunities to enhance technical expertise within the Maldivian sports sector. Discussions also focused on creating stronger partnerships that would contribute to the long-term growth and development of sports in the Maldives. The meeting reflects the shared commitment of both countries to foster closer cooperation through sport and to explore new opportunities that benefit athletes, sports professionals, and youth communities in both nations.

The Sports First Aid and Taping Course officially commenced today in Malé City. Held from 14th–16th May 2026, the 3-day programme is organized in collaboration with Maldives National Institute of Sports and Sports Medicine Association of Maldives. With 26 participants taking part, the course aims to strengthen practical skills in sports first aid, taping techniques, and injury management to support safer sporting environments across the Maldives.

The closing ceremony of the 2nd Physical Activity for Community Wellbeing Programme was held with 7 participants from A.A, A.Dh, V, and K. Atoll completing the program. The programme aimed to promote healthy and active lifestyles through simple, inclusive, and community-based physical activity initiatives. Throughout the programme, participants were equipped with practical skills and knowledge to organise and lead activities that strengthen physical health, mental wellbeing, and community engagement within their communities.

Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu attended the Maldives Open 2026 organized by Golf Association of Maldives. The 2nd edition of the Maldives Open 2026 Championship was successfully held at Victoria Golf Club from 6–7 May 2026, bringing together a total of 40 participants, including 18 Maldivian golfers. The event highlighted the rapid growth and increasing popularity of golf in the Maldives within a short period of time. With several golf courses already established at luxury resorts across the country, the sport continues to gain momentum among both local and international players. The government of Maldives continues to encourage the development of golf as part of its broader strategy to promote sports tourism and strengthen the nation’s tourism industry.

We are pleased to announce that the Cricket Coaching Course has officially commenced in Malé City, running from 27th April to 03rd May 2026. A total of 24 participants have successfully enrolled in the course, marking a strong step forward in developing cricket coaching capacity in the Maldives. The course is being conducted by our instructors Imad Ismail and Ibrahim Ali, who bring valuable expertise and experience to support the development of participants. This program aims to enhance coaching knowledge, skills, and overall growth of the sport at both grassroots and national levels.
