The fact that servicemen are still using smartwatches, connected devices and Strava while deployed in 2026 is mindblowing. The location of the French Charles de Gaulle was exposed on March 13 when a naval officer logged a run on Strava while it sailed west of Cyprus.

@RSE_VB Had an air show for a Tiger Cruise. CAG took Gypsy 200 off the Cat, departed the ship airspace came screaming by the port side at 100', pulled the stick into his lap until you couldn't see him. After the air show, he trapped & the FDC called the jet down for overstress insp. 🤣

There was NOTHING like being on the Carrier when a Tomcat did a super sonic pass. With 60,000 pounds of American titanium, steel, and aluminum moving that fast, the BOOM was enormous.
It literally shook the whole carrier. If you were on the flight deck, you’d cover your ears and open your mouth to keep from over pressurizing your ears.
Below decks, there was this noticeable THUNNNNGGG as the shockwave passed through the whole ship. Even the Snipes (the Sailors way down in the lower engine room decks, God Bless ‘em!) could feel it.
Nothing like that experience in the world.

@cdrsalamander I've seen this first hand multiple times. That's when the senior NCOs need to "suggest" a different path or solution. Sometimes you can alter course enough to prevent a bad situation from getting worse.

If you've been deployed on a carrier or with an air wing on a carrier in the last 35 years, you've been extended. In my 24 years active duty I was extended, deployed early, double-pumped, re-routed on every deployment.
