SAM ALTMAN: “WE SEE A FUTURE WHERE INTELLIGENCE IS A UTILITY, LIKE ELECTRICITY OR WATER, AND PEOPLE BUY IT FROM US ON A METER.”

For anyone who’s ever faced a personal challenge, it doesn’t get much better than the 'Six Minutes' speech in VISION QUEST. This scene wasn’t in the 1979 novel by Terry Davis. Elmo's monologue was written specifically for the film by screenwriter Darryl Ponicsan (THE LAST DETAIL, TAPS). Actor J. C. Quinn absolutely knocks it out of the park here. If you’d like to support the @FMJDiary project, you can bid on an original poster below. I signed and inscribed it with Elmo’s iconic line: “It ain't the six minutes... it's what happens in that six minutes.” ebay.us/m/p2kYOc

The American mind can’t comprehend this.

In 1982, Larry Walters, a 33 year old truck driver from California, tied 40+ eight-foot weather balloons to his chair and took off. He took his pellet gun, a CB radio, sandwiches, 2 liters of Coca-Cola, a pack of beer, and a camera. He soared as high as 16,000 feet l, which became a problem because some planes were flying at that altitude.

This is probably a long shot, but if anybody happens to be in DC this weekend and plans on visiting Arlington, I would love to see a fresh photo of my husband’s grave in Section 60. SSG Alan W. Shaw Section 60, Grave 8451 B Co 1/12 Cav, 1st Cavalry Division November 10, 1975 - February 9, 2007 There’s just something about knowing people still stop by, still say his name, still remember. 🇺🇸⭐🇺🇸

The world’s largest military budget has produced an industrial base that cannot sustain a serious war. How is that possible? Because the system is not designed to produce military capability. It is designed to produce contracts. The five largest defense contractors employ roughly a thousand lobbyists in Washington. They distribute their suppliers across forty-five states deliberately, so no senator can ever vote to cancel a program without firing his own constituents. And here we are. The current leadership will keep fiddling on this as they see our apathy as permission.

This device allows workers to safely move traffic barrels from one side to another.

The NTSB later found that the N110AA DC-10 disaster began weeks before the AA191 crash during a maintenance procedure at American Airlines’ Tulsa facility. McDonnell Douglas recommended removing the engine and pylon separately, but American, Continental, and United used a faster shortcut by removing them together to save time and labor hours. During maintenance on Flight 191’s aircraft, a slight forklift misalignment jammed the pylon against the wing, creating a small structural crack that went unnoticed. Over the next 8 weeks, the crack grew with every flight cycle until the pylon finally failed during takeoff rotation, causing the entire engine to tear away from the wing. Fleet inspections afterward found similar damage on other DC-10s as well.

tipping culture is getting ridiculous
