President Ian Khama is sworn in during a ceremony in Gaborone 1 April 2008. Festus Mogae stepped down handing over power according to ten-year limit. Khama gave way on 1 April 2018 to Mokgweetsi Masisi. The Democratic party ruled Botswana since independence in 1966, until 2024

@ModernConflict ATT had been President for almost 10 years, elected in 2002 & 2007. When overthrown he had almost completed his term. For a year he had led the interim authority after the revolution & coup against Moussa Traoré in 1991. Alpha Oumar Konaré was elected twice in 1992 & 1997.
