Gambia coach Jonathan McKinstry has announced a 25-man squad that will be playing in friendly matches during the June FIFA international window. The first match will be against Iran in Antalya on May 29, 2026. The team will assemble in the Turkish coastal city on Monday.

🇬🇲🇬🇧: Young Gambian-British Candidate Sarata Sawo Vows to Continue Community Work After Local Election Defeat Sarata Sawo, a 22-year-old Gambian immigrant, has said her loss in the May 7 UK local government elections will not define her, describing the experience as a stepping stone for greater involvement by young Black women in politics. Running as a Labour candidate, Sawo contested a local seat but was unsuccessful. In a graceful statement released after the results, she thanked supporters for their messages of encouragement. “I won’t let this loss define me. Instead, I’ll use it to redirect me towards even better things,” Sawo said. “I’m only 22 and it took the people around me to remind me that simply being a candidate is an achievement in itself. I hope this has helped pave the way for more young people, especially young Black women, to get involved in democracy and believe they belong in these spaces too.” Sawo, who balanced campaigning with her studies, said she is now focusing on completing her Master’s degree at Durham University and finishing her dissertation. She plans to remain active in her community and, after graduating, pursue work that allows her to help others and create positive change. (@TheAlkambaTimes @saratasawo)
