Her experience in the restaurant industry has made her aware of the significant amount of unnecessary waste generated, which she hopes to help reduce. She is excited to participate in research on #lignin #depolymerization and the creation of #biodegradableplastics.

We are thrilled to welcome MariElena Rivera to @ModseLab. MariElena is currently pursuing a BS in Chemical Engineering @UIC_ChE. After visiting Argonne National Laboratory for a bio-symposium, she is interested in green chemistry and the goal of creating a sustainable world.

Her focus lies in seeking new material substitutes to address overproduction and pollution waste challenges, aiming to mitigate the environmental impact of industrial processes on ecosystems. #sustainablechemistry #lignin #research #teamwork

Now pursuing a master's degree at @UIC_ChE Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Illinois at Chicago, she joined @ModseLab, eager to apply her expertise and interests to our research endeavors.

Join us to celebrate our new group member, Karoll Cancino! Karroll holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Colombia. She is passionate about sustainable chemistry, particularly addressing the food waste issue and its significant impact on biodiversity.
