@regularaugust I wonder, do people not realize how much Japanese anime and games were influenced by the Hollywood movies. You think Kojima is such a unique case?

@idoltarantula Chances are - it's gonna be the first N+/R+ of many idols for CG P's. Because these were drawn by the different people, apparently, and they look really janky.

@LordTash2 @inkfycreates @CoolTaff16 Not sure what exactly is your argument here. If two shows inspired by same things and end up being very similar to each other - they belong to one genre and lack of direct lineage is irrelevant. That's how the genres work.

@inkfycreates @CoolTaff16 I think what actually happened is that two series were both separately inspired by toku in different eras. Cutie Honey from Kamen Rider, and Sailor Moon from Sentai and Poitrine. That's why CH has a lot of similar beats to SM-era stuff, but there's not a direct linage between.

@RadiantBlazeVA @walter_ookami Ishihara left Cygames in 2019, a few years before the game came out. He worked on 2018 anime and other early Uma content. Hard to say, but he clearly wasn't the game's director.

@walter_ookami Cygames did the Cinderella Girls Rhythm Game but the connection is much deeper than that, the Director for uma is the same director as the first Imas game on 360 so that's why a lot of its dna is baked into uma

@Matthew60577546 @MangaMoguraRE This is so wrong on so many accounts. 1. There aren't that many "dark" shows as you think. 2. The mainstream mg isn't all just about cute things - it has drama and dark moments as well. 3. There are a lot of shows "in-between" like Nanoha or Symphogear.

I used to be on the fence about Idolmaster coming to EN. Gakumas has a chance tbh. But after seeing the Uma fanbase I realized I never want Imas to go global. They’ll show up expecting yuri, won’t find it and shit up the whole place. Global doesn't deserve the greatest idol game.

@revenant_MMXX I guess what really makes me mad about post like these - is that people like you only care about old anime when it has good animation. If you were to watch something with actual cultural impact, like Gundam, you'll end up bitching about "muh animation" and dropping the show.

Crazy to watch old, "low-quality" OVAs from before you were born and see better animation than almost anything that comes out now. Maybe it's not fair to compare an OVA to a TV anime, but consider how much easier the animation process is in general today.

@MON0EYE Nah, the transitional period was rough. I tried to watch Nanoha recently, and like... wow, it's pretty much unwatchable in current era. Even something like MahoAka has better battle scenes not to mention Symphogear. I don't even mention the story which is mid at best.

Personally, I heavily fw with early 2000s digipaint anime.
I find the general creative output of the shows during this time period more than outweighing the visual quality. In a weird way I think this style adds more to the general feel and charm than it would in cel animation.

i agree with the take that a lot of newer anime looks bad but the early/mid 2000s have some of the worst looking anime out there lol that transition to digipaint was ROUGH. we’re definitely in a better now position than we were then lol
